Neither....

I'd put the cash in your pocket and use it to go on a trip.

I've just been to Stuttgart in a day and then back again a few days later on a 1200GS with a standard (6 year old) seat and it was fine. Maybe it's how some people ride or what they do in the privacy of their own homes that causes the problems? And the distinctive style of the bike means that when unmolested it just about manages to keep itself together. Adding badly designed trinkets creates a bastard child so let your eyes get involved in the decision making.

As for the warranty, I'd not bother. I didn't and still managed to get £1200 worth of new ABS pump foc from BMW when the bike was just under 5 years old.

Decisions decisions......

I thought Nippy had the Sargent gig sewn up?
Anyways, UKGSer has come up trumps again in the form of PMs regarding this fine throne!
Looks like I will be picking up a lightly soiled Sargent next week and just hope the problem goes away. I think the fact it's a different shape can only bring on a new problem & not continue with the old one.

You are asking a very odd question, which boils down to deciding whether to buy an insurance policy or some bling.

Folks buy insurance to mitigate risk and put a cap on financial losses (i.e. life insurance, the fully comp part of motor insurance, extended warranties etc).

You need to asses how likely the bike is to break down out of warranty and what the likely cost is. If you can stomach the likely cost, then dont bother with the extended warranty. Simple.

Personally I, dont bother with extended warranties as I don't think they are worth the money.

With regard to the seat - do you really need it? I find my stock seat fine for short to medium journeys. Anything north of 200 miles I bungee a £10 sheepskin on. Works a treat for me.

Warranty.........!:thumb

What do you need the seat for anyway? I thought all GS riders went everywhere standiing up!

Ahhhhh i've got it now.........They stand up all the time because the seat is so uncomfortable and they've got a sore a*rse.......!:blast

Unstoppable:augie

The question was more a case of "Should I not renew the warranty & buy a seat with the money instead?"
For what it's worth the money I have saved NOT taking BMW warranties in the last 5 years means the engine could lunch itself & I would still break even ..... just!

...which is precisely the same as what I originally wrote, which is deciding between buying an insurance policy or some bling.
