Can anyone tell me why he was working overtime this morning then drove to Inversneckie this afternoon and bought a new Mondeo????

I drive a Mondeo, its a decent can but if I could have any car I wanted it wouldn't be a fecken Mondeo.

People's motivation for working is a combination of three things: socialising, personal development and reward & recognition. I'd guess yer man was rating quite high on the socialising or personal development score (my prediction is socialising - he would miss his friends).

The purchasing of a Mondeo just demonstrates a lack of imagination, which would back up my ideas around the first paragraph

winning that amount of money suddenly would take a lot of people out of their comfort zone - he is just aspiring to the highest material object that he identify's with in his usual day to day world...he'll ease into the high life soon enough

The post started well but then unfortunately, unintentionally perhaps, you have already started to judge the man based on his new found wealth like many other people will.

Clearly the car he wanted was a fekkin Mondeo

.yep......or cars just aren't his thing perhaps ......a Mondeo is just as good as most cars if all you want to do is commute and get you & the wife to the shops and back . If you don't feel the need to spunk £40,50,60k+ on a car just to impress people then why waste your dosh even if you do have £3.5 mill in the bank.

I'd go out and buy a Maserati Quattroporte myself because I love they way they sound, look a bit different, not as common as an Audi, Merc or Beemer and bit more discreet & not as flash a those 4 door Porsches & Astons..... but thats just me

No, that would be reward, as in 'reward & recognition'

We all register all three motivations however the balance is different for everyone and can change dependant on circumstances.

But then you knew that but were too busy trying to score points to think about it

In you are in your 40s+ then £3.5m should be more than enough to retire on unless you intend to go totally mad and buy lots of expensive houses, cars, bikes, or women.

Even if you spent £1m on 'stuff' you could still have a comfortable, mortgage free life with enough left over for some petrol for the bikes (dream garage time ) and still pay yourself >£60k per annum for 40 years. Wouldn't be much capital left when you died (other than the house(s), however you can't take it with you.

Three n a half mil in the bank, don't think id be working an hourly paid job (he`s an HGV mechanic) far less doing overtime. That was the first part of my question, would you be doing that?
I know I wouldn't.
Its been pishing down here most of the week, Midgies are out as well I kicked out a couple of paparazzi out on Tuesday (they asked me to verify the photo that was in the red tops on Wednesday) n fielded too many phone calls from the gutter press this week so god knows what its been like for him n his family.
Its a life changing experience having that amount of capital behind you, its good Camelot offer guidance on how to invest it, I hope he fecks off this week and has just been gathering his thoughts, doubt it though.

Dont know what Id buy, but Id have fun working it out.
I would`nt go too far though, my old mans still ill so Im down in Weegie town every week. Some things money cant buy
