If you have a spare key you won't lose the other one !
So off to Battersea Park Lane I go armed with the security proof.
Fair enough & a week later,today,it's arrived.
So I go to collect it & does n't do the seat lock.

Keys Galore have cut umpteen spare keys for me & they have always worked.
My fault for joining 21st century motorcycling with a chip in the key then.
What are the chances of it being right 2nd time ??

If it fits the ignition then it should fit the seat lock, make sure it's going in far enough, try a squirt of GT85/WD40.

You'd think matey boy at Battersea BMW would have tried that, but he did n't.
I'm glad I have n't got a snapped key in my seat lock.
I believe they are having another go.

The key is laser cut by computer in germany. It is likely a tight fit. Use it in your ignition for a while and it wikl soon loosen up. Plus squirt lube in. Nowt wrong with the key.

Seat locks get little use compared to ignition and get all the road clag. Lock probably needs cleaning with WD etc

Tight Key.

Cheers for the replies lads.

I'm a bit non plussed with the fella at Park Lane.
There's a workshop there at his disposal with litres of WD-40.
Why did n't he give it a squirt ?
I'll be returning next week I guess to start again.:(

Use GT85 it's got Teflon in it, for years Iv sprayed my drills when cutting tough things on lathe & mill, you can polish plastic parts coat frame engine etc water beads up dirt falls off, brill on cycle chains
I think WD4o is crap in comparison drys out after a while.

You ordered a spare key from the parts department. They don't get their hands dirty. Would you really want to pay in excess of £120+VAT labour per hour for what you described? Lets get real here... :-)

The only weay you can ever justify ( if that is ever possible) the sort of charges mentioned are by doing the job properly first time round. The dealer should have checked that the key worked and if necessary should have lubed the lock.

Questions....

Q1 Does your new key work in your ignition? Going in easily, starting the bike, stopping it and withdrawing easily?

Q2 Does your old key undo the seat lock, easily and reliably?

Q3 Dos your old key unlock your panniers (assuming you have them) easily and reliably?

Q4 Does your new key unlock your panniers easily and reliably?

If the answer to Q1 is no, they have given you the wrong key by mistake.

If the answer to Q1 is yes, great you have the correct key

If the answer to Q2 is no, then your under seat lock (or your method of unlocking it) is not working properly, the new key is not at fault

If the answer to Q2 is yes, then the new key is possibly somehow at fault mechanically

Q3 and Q4, you can work out for yourself

Pretty cheap really, New key for my BMW car was" 129 of your English pounds thank you sir" that was with a discount as well, the new key was a bit stiff when New but was ok when used for a few months, not a lot of help I know but just thought I'd mention it.

No you have n't.
Key ordered in person for security purposes.Rode home.
Went back in person a week later for collection.
New key does n't work in all the holes it's supposed to.
Ride off back home again.
Now i've got to go back again when they find one that works.

WD-40,GT-85 or multiple choice questions. At £38 it should do what it's supposed to.
That's my point.

Well then the answer is that the key has come through wrong. It wouldn't matter if it was £3.80 or £38.00 or £380.00 it's still bloody wrong

No harm done, just a minor inconvenience :comfort

When I picked up my brand new GSA last year the key fitted the ignition fine but wouldn't work in the top box or one of the panniers. The mechanic took the key away, filed a tiny amount off it and came back 2 minutes later. Voila, Bob Sherunkle all sorted.
A common problem with new keys he assured me.
