£60 fine + 3points for "Bike Boxes" by CCTV

I missed this thread originally. I have noticed a police presence by Lewisham station since last year - I couldn't believe it, you never see any cyclists in the boxes!! I continue to use the boxes, what else are we to do, join the queue of cars?!! And I've had a couple of coppers point out that I should not be there but I ignore them - its a ridiculous idea.

I have written to that Boris and TFL for their advice for m/cyclists. Why should we not be able to use them? We are vulnerable too - I had 5 off's in 2013, and the worst was the fault of a cyclist (took him out!), and it was right outside Westminster!

I will continue to use the boxes.

Anyone got any more thoughts on it?

Yes, but they're nothing to do with cycle boxes... :eek

You're a big boy & now seem to be fully aware where you stand legally. The box is for cyclists only, the stop line for cars, motorcycles etc. is prior to the box. Crossing that first stop line when the primary ATS is red puts you in line for £100 fine & 3 points. Do I agree with it? No I don't but that's currently where the law stands. If you continue to ignore that the chances are eventually you'll get a ticket. The choice is entirely yours.

yes I am!!

so, what's the alternative? you're not telling me you queue with the cars? and often it is not safe to stay on the offside of the cars facing oncoming traffic..

i'll ride up to the front and stop in front of the box if necessary (past the 2nd ASL).

Stop alongside the car/truck at the head of the queue. Either gun it when the lights turn green or slide in behind. Don't take any cyclists out! :blast

What hops is telling you what the law is and what you risk if he or fellow plod has to enforce the law.

The choice is yours. You could get a bike ....

Look yer feckin' numpty ....

You're on a motorbike that'll get to 60 in about three seconds, and is the quickest choice of motorvehicle in Lahndon. Stop bleating about how many off's you've had and how vulnerable you are. Give the feckin' cyclists a chance ......

:blast

you can't always stop alongside, its often not safe.

it may be the law, but it has (sensibly as far as m/c are concerned) not been enforced in the past. tfl say that following the deaths of cyclists in London in recent years, they reviewed it (with the Met) and this was their solution.

not the right solution imho.. perhaps educate cyclists first.

not sure what your advice is. and I totally respect cyclists. I feckin dropped my bike to do less damage to the cyclist that stepped out in front of me.

you're not as bothered about it as I am, fair enough..

Because I chill out ..... :spl1f:

It sounds to me like yer getting all stressed as you ride - desperate to get to the front of every red light and then having a small anxiety attack when it doesn't happen :D

I never go beyond the stop line. And I wait between cars, not next to them. More often than not I wait in-between the first and second, lights go to red and amber, I nail it, they're green as I cross the line and I'm away. It's easy ... and it's stress free ....

Were you in Los Angeles in 1993 ... :D

What on earth does Mr Gilligan spend £913 million PA on in connection with cycling? Should be cut dramtically. You only build cycle lanes once.

Haha! Brilliant film - mmmm!

Yes, my wife says I've turned into a moaning, grumpy old git - what does she know?!

If you're on a GS you have right of way over anything smaller. Just ride over the cyclist. If you're quick nobody will have a chance to get your reggie number.
