..early R1200GS or a very nice R1150GS and keep my 2006 K1200S

I loved the original R1100GS, but couldn't afford one at the time in 1999. I also like the R1200GS, although I found it lacking power two-up with my ex on the back. Might not be a problem with the new model as she's five stones lighter....

So, instead of buying a new K1300S/VFR1200 (if it's any good) or a new R1200GS, I'm thinking about keeping my K1200S for fast touring and weekend scratching and buying an older GS for playing around on the backroads of the Dales where I find the K hard on the wrists, especially two-up.

Can't decide whether to risk an early 1200 though or play it safe with a nice 1150

play safe with the 1150,cheap as chips,don't give £6000 for one though they should be more like £4000 tops,don't get into the 'it's got £1000's of extra's'speal that should not put the price up

Trouble is , with two bikes in the garage, one will get used a lot less you'll then start to feel like its wasted space/money sitting there ....

PS my 54 plate 1200 just got me to Slovakia and back... only blew a headlight bulb so happy with that ....

Hi Sven long time no see possibly your Austrian trip.

I've had a 1150 2003 since then bought with 9000 miles sold with 30.000 had paralever bairings replaced at 15.000 front discs & rear gear box seal replaced at 25,000 was worried about my servo brakes giving up & dreaded the at the time dealer only bleeding of them.
Waited until the 07 1200 came out no servos sold at 14.000 a couple of months ago only problem 2 batteries replaced in 2 years oh ya and the dreaded EWS failure in the South of France
Sold that & gone back to basics now a mint 1150 99 GS with 15.000. Just had new battery & tyres 2 weeks ago a £460 service before I got it last week.
No servos no EWS & fuel pump controllers to worry about.

Good luck you may even find you don't need all that power to get a buzz and the k may have to go.

Got an 05 1200, granted low miles when I bought it, but just done 3500 miles through the alps two up with lots of kit and had an absolute blast. No problems with the bike at all. You can't argue with the weight and power advantage of the 12 over the 1150.

Couldn't agree more, never had as much grin so easily factor on my sports bikes, just as much fun and arguably more skill needed to ride quick. Just at a lower (doesn't feel slower mind) speed on the clock.

Go for an early, well maintained 1200!!

There's your first problem I've told you before - dispense with the sack on the back and if you can't you certainly need to get her to dispense with taking crap like that on the bike. If you fail miserably at that, get the BMW topbox. (If you mount it in the pillion position, that would cure the first problem....)

K12 and GSA

Im kinda in the same situation. Bought a K12RS (first bike), and then had a hankering for a 1150GSA.
Now Ive got both in the garage - and they are both great bikes. The GSA for long distance two up, daily use, round the mountains, and the K for the sheer exhileration.
I know the RS has to go, since it isnt getting the usage...but its a very difficult decision to make.
I want to keep them both but the finance dept (AKA SWMBO) kinda dictate that one has to go.
