Well, rescued this R80 GS from the dead back in May and pleased I did, its going to make a cracking bike.

Jaber’s named it Lazurus but I quite like The Tank, pure bag of shit with no flashy paint job or chrome bits, just battle scars and surface rust. Seen Sean W’s accidental re-build of a 100 GS and Sean has already done much more than me, (good luck with the rest Sean) but as others have said the costs mount considerably and I certainly found this myself.

Side stand needs a bit of sorting.

84, 500 when I got it and stripped it down to frame, engine and centre stand only. No paint job on any parts other than brush paint the pannier rails, but did concentrate on a fairly in-depth mechanical re-furb.

Big thanks to Bob Murphy for his excellent and skilled work in re-furbing the gearbox (springs, bearings, seals etc) and the heads (valves, guides, cut valve seats, springs etc). This work has definitely given the bike a massive new lease of life and it will be sound now for many years to come. Thank you very much Bob.

Rear end stripped and sorted by Jaber with new paralever and pivot point bearings, baffles and drive shaft examined (like new by the way after work by previous owner) splines lubed and rebuilt. Also new front wheel bearings, steering head bearings, stainless push-rod tubes via Jaber along with countless, countless other favours and massive amount of help, top, top man :thumb2.

New front brake disc, pads and goodridge hose with a full calliper strip down and re-build and full service with plugs, filters and fluids.

As new set of front forks and yolke’s fitted along with fluid change and these were courtesy of Jason (Colt) again this was a massive step forward with the re-build and without Jasons help would not have turned out as well. Cheers Jase.

Going to fit new tyres as I cant get on with the dual trail types on there, front Bridgestone and rear Pirreli, would make a decent set of off road tyres for someone, plenty of meat left but I am purely road based and will fit as such.

Finely must thank Rob Shallcross for his in-put and various bits of help with the bike although Jaber did smash some of his tools during the strip down. This is because he just has shiny, shiny bikes and we don’t like that.

Now to fit me panniers and get some use out of it.

Very very cool. I'm making my R80GS look kinda similar.
The colour scheme & dash - what model is it - a basic/ kalahari type?

Looks like what was the standard dash for the R100 / R80 paralever in the late 80's that was between the mono and the PD's etc.

Like it

Hi Phil,

Like the bike and what you're done, are them pegs off your PD?

Fancy getting something similar but not so many about.

Regards

:beerjug::beerjug:

lowering kit

Not the same one's Paul, different set but same idea to lower the peg position down.

Always had them even on 1150's its just what choice of pegs you use with the kit. Mick db1 knocked these pegs up for me a year or 2 back but i am going to try some fastway's i have before deciding which stays on it.

Wow ! That didn't take you long to put together (considering you didn't get the heads back until Thursday) :clap.

The bike's looking great, well done.

Glad I could help in some small way :thumb

Bob (Murphy).

bagashite

Nice one Phil you certainly dont fu*k about, told y the 800:cool: was the best and in the mostest bestest colour:thumb2, by the way I am now selling my house and gettin some where without a garage:eek:

now enjoy;)

Now that I like a lot.:thumb No messing , no bling but still looks the bizz.

Now if I were you I would go for a more inventive name, I mean, Lazerus, rizen from the dead, hardly. ... The tank, ...naaah not big and butch enough.

How about, Slapper, ......Bit worn around the edges but still a good goer, just get on and ride yerself silly.:aidan

Oh, and try the Conti escapes, excellent road tyre , cheaper than tourances and look a bit traily too

Conti escapes

Got the Conti's on the Classic Tony, :thumb think they're great in the dry and really hold the road but had a few moments in the wet wether on them.

Think i'll give slapper a mis though, does'nt sound right :beerjug:

Eventually plumbed for Anakee 2's balanced etc fitted to loose wheels for £180 at John Cooper tyres, Chandos Pole st, Derby if its any good to anyone.

Its off Ashbourne rd A52 going into Derby, he can order in what ever make and tyre size you need and give you a price on the phone fitted to yr wheels, good service.

Nigel on 01332 346411 / 01332 343968

That's how I like them..... a sound 'in use' condition. Nice job.:thumb2
Have you fitted new headers and if so, shere are the tubes from and price?

Timpo.

tubes heads etc

Stainless push rod tubes from M'works Timpo, price if i remember was £45 and about £5 for the new rubbers. I steadied the barrels and Jaber drove them in with a lump hammer

Done the Bumble bee as well recently and they're well worth doing.

Heads re-furbed through Mr Bob Murphy with new valves, guides, springs etc.
Main expense here is the cost of the parts and some machining but well worth it for peace of mind with the mileage.

Done 450 miles over the last couple of days around the Nth East and Nth Yorks and its bedding in fine, loved every minute of it. Carbs need some tweaking though.

Derby Motorcycle Tyres

Just an up-date on Nigel for bike tyres - he's moved about 100 yards away to a new and improved unit.

Unit 2 Denby yard, Chandos Pole street, Derby

number also changed to 01332 340421, top service and a good bloke
