The bag on the back has my camping kit in it, nothing more. Had I not been turning into some sort of pikey for four days, it would not be there at all.

I had forgotten what a great bike the 1600 is. Heavy, yes but with turbine like drive and comfortable for mile, after mile, after mile. I am glad now that I didn’t sell it.

Off the Chunnel in short order, I took my newly found short cut, along an access road inside the terminal’s fenced area and was soon in the open countryside. As everyone knows, the roads in north east France are crap and everyone must take the motorway….

It’s not signposted. For many years I thought it was just some sort of internal road. Then I noticed that there are no restriction signs at its entry point. I also realised that it exited at a regular roundabout.

The entry point is not on Google Street View, as it is inside the terminal’s security fence but the exit is easy to see:




It only really works if you want to avoid one junction on the motorway and / or be heading for roughly St Omer or one of the small towns along the way, for instance, Guines.

Back to the ‘Her’ GS in the hotel’s car park, I have no idea what this lanyard thing, taped to the inside of the screen does:






My only guess is that it flaps about and acts as some sort of crude rain deflector.

Have a Great trip. The blue sky thing is a bit odd I usually stick a bit of yellow tape on the inside edge of the right mirror as a reminder. Years ago I turned right from a single track road onto a two lane road outside Montguyon. After a few bends I came to a straight and thought.........what's that idiot Citroen driver doing on the wrong......oh. Wonder I got past 23

Always admired as a piece of engineering but with age a K with half the number of cyclinders suits me better now
