€200 fine for HIDs in Austria

At long last the Police have done something right :clap:clap

Fckin GS's loaded up with everything and a pillion on the back - all lights blazing and now pointing up higher than they should cos they aren't adjusted properly - blinding everyone they see coming in the opposite direction

Bloody good job too.

Here's a lesson - don't have driving lights on in daylight
Adjust them very properly if you have to have them at all.

Cocks on GS's with too many lights on in daylight deserve to get pulled over - HID's are even worse

Lesson learned.

You tell 'em!! :blagblah :blagblah

Just like chavs in f*cking Saxos! :rob

Never did like them two that much anyway, always pissing off abroad an leaving me :ronno

Oh by the way i didn.t mention that they tried to stop a audi with hids lights on who completly ignored them,we.ve put this up because a lot of ukgsers use landeck the area as a base'ii've done 35000 miles in three years with my hids blazing in all round the uk and europe and never had a problem before,i no a lot of tossers who have used hids from this
Parish and other bikers so feel free to take the piss or whatever as i dont really give a fuk but be warned that the landeck police are looking for this and when we get back l'll scan my ticket

Many audis will have hids as standard or as a factory option - surely they can't knick you for having factory fitted hids?

Derek, a thought, though not a lot of use:

Yes we had spots on and headlight we were NOT SPEEDING! And I was asked to pay CASH! Mick was allowed credit card! Puts me well off!

If you were riding in UK, an nasty police man could do the same thing to you, though with less cost.

If you had Spots on with dipped headlights: Illegal.

If you had foglights on with dipped headlights, and visbility is over 200 metres: Illegal.

Ok, The fine is less, but a nasty policeman anywhere can find something to do you for.

silly tossers

its no wonder you got pulled spot lights are only ment to be used with main beam in the dark not as running lights !
some folk use spots far too much :rob

Yes these two were twats nothing like bikers
Who I have met. Usually police can even
Have a laugh whilst taking your money!
But €400 for Hids is a dick Turpin move!
I have to say they were both horrible to us.

so why didnt you go to the local police station and complain if you think youve been fleeced / hard done by and they were rude

were they real police and not just a couple of wanna-be con men :nenau:nenau

For what it's worth, both Met & Essex police seem to ignore vehicle Construction & Use regs - especially as regards use of fog lights and high intensity rear (fog) lights.

I have 2 proposals:

1) switching on fog-lights should automatically engage a speed limiter (say 25mph to be safe in fog?) and,

2) cars should have the driver's airbag removed and replaced by a 6" steel spike mounted on the centre of the steering wheel (pointing at the driver to prompt safe & considerate driving)

To quote Mr Stalker, I'm convinced this will be a major breakthrough in road safety (acknowledgment to Dunlop Denovo tyres :rob)

Another top tip: on going to bed at night, set a mousetrap on top of your alarm clock to stop you oversleeping when you cancel the alarm...:thumb

But to the original post, it would seem the pull was not unreasonable but the penalty seems unjust and disproportionate to the offense. Either way, one would expect the Polizei to be professional in their conduct and that should include being polite & courtious. Maybe one's expectations need restructuring.

The Austrians are dirty robbing bastard Swiss wannabe's.

Confirmed by my German host who used to live in Garmish near the Austrian border.

He got done for not having his lights on - even though the conditions were good.

It's an Austrian income from travellers based upon flimsy regulations.

You could at least admire the Swiss as they implement by conviction.

Phew ;)

I'm originally from switzerland but live in the isle of man from 1998 , and got done myself for speeding in austria when I was not speeding . I was in a cue of traffic entering a village at a speed of 40/45 kph , I was in the cue for about 500 yards before the 50kph speed limit , when I got polled over I noticed that all the veicles stopped where not austrian . let you get your own conclusion lol
The swiss police they are fair I think ,I got stopped a few time , some got just a slap in the vrist some other got a fine . sorry for my english still learning haha .

If he was on a bike he should have had his lights on all the time, and living near the border he should know that. I think you will find this rule common in Europe-hardly flimsy regulations! Cars also had to have lights on up until 2009 when the rules were changed. As in the UK ignorance of the law is no excuse

€100 a spotlight isn't flimsy

There is a difference between regulations and enforcement. The Austrian Stasi appear to be very Picki :augie

Whilst they wom feck all medals in the Olympics they get a silver for pissin off foreigners travelling in their country. Gold goes to Switzerland.

If you read my post you will see that I was not referring to the main subject of this thread at all, but to your comment about someone else being stopped for NO lights. As I said if this is the law and it certainly is for bikes there is little excuse for a person living close to the Austrian border not knowing this.

I don't live in the Tirol so for all I know you might be right about the police there. But I do live in southern Austria, have done for 4 years and I have never had a problem in this region. We have bikers from all over here all summer and not one has reported bad treatment from the police here. Several have been stopped for speeding and without exception have been treated courteously and have been surprised by the small size of the fines- usually 25 Euro.

As I have said before it's like judging the whole of the UK by what was happening in North Wales.

And I can tell you of people we know from several European countries who have had really bad experience of English police. We have heard their stories of people being held because they were driving a friends car and the UK police thought they were not insured. In fact in a lot of European countries it is the vehicle that is insured and anyone with a driving licence can legally drive it. I know some of these people now say never go to England because of the way in which they were treated.

And I know some people who will never go to Austria / Switzerland for the same reasons, its not high on my list of places to visit, This thread is not the 1st to complain about the enthusiastic Austrian and Swiss police there have been many, it doesn't seem to be a one off!. The 200 euro fine for the lights is outrageous

And with just about as much justification! There are stories from all over the world about police behaviour . The point I was making is that people should not let such stories deter them from travelling. I too, by the way, think the 200 Euro fine was over the top although I am no fan of these lights.

Maybe you should try our more laid back region?

I am speaking from my experience which was a police stop on the motorway exit, and we were by no means the only ones being fined.

Not only that, more Police were police a few kms up the road with a speed gun - just in case you either didn't stop or felt ecstatic at getting through the block.

My German friend was in a car in bright daylight when he got done for no lights, and yes as a local he knows exactly what is going on.

Austria is not Switzerland. They have about as much in common as the UK and France.
