Help! Screen needed.

My brother has recently bought a 650 twin (I told him he needs a 1200GS) and he is pleased with it but he wants a more effective screen. He is 6 feet tall and does a 50 round trip commute. He has considered a 800 screen but isn't sure it will work well enough. He also doesn't want one that is so big that it ruins the look of the bike. I have tried a search but I'm doing this on my phone and the search feature ain't working. Anyone tried a MRA screen? Or any other ideas? Thanks.

The standard 800 screen is little better than the 650 screen. The BMW Touring screen is better, but not really any good for a 6'er.

tbh, anything big enough to be effective is definately going to change the looks!

Not quite ticked the 'done 1,000miles in a day' bucket list biking thingie ;)

If you want too ride for 16+ hours on a bike in a day or more. You will want to be stretching each hand liberally & having a way of resting & riding is tough without these imo.

One was from NN (nippy normans) and other from touratwat :D One on clutch side is more of a flat palm rest.

No, but in 48 years of riding bikes I have covered a mile or two. ;)
I tried one of them things once and just could not get on with it. On my previous bike (955 Tiger) the throttle could be held with an O ring between the grip and the bar end, when not needed it was rolled on to the grove in the bar end out of the way, not devised a similar thing for the f650gs....yet.:D

Hello Nutter,

I take it at this time of year your brother is looking for more protection?

Britannia Composites Mirage 2 offers this in abundance. Somehow even in the pouring rain it stops a lot of my chest getting wet and removes all the blast. However i'm a fair few inches shorter than him. And it is just shy of £400...

800 screen does not so much stop the turbulence rather move it up higher. It's between two and three inches taller and has a different profile to the top edge.

For naked in the summer i found bending/remoulding the top back on a very short screen better than anything.

Winter i'm with the Mirage 2 all the way.

If he's in the market for an 800 stock screen PM me.

Best of luck,

S

Ni Nutter

first off a 1200 is good advice :thumb :D :D

I ride the F650 GS and i'm 6 and a quater of an inch I have 4 screens, and in my opinion.........

started with the standard F650GS and at purchase thought it would be a good idea to have them fit the F800gs standard screen as its taller (what 40mm ish) biggest waist of money I spent on my bike to date as the effect is almost pointless :blast

So then went for the givi as on Gunz bike as shown above, very good huge improvement fits great with the bike at a reasonable cost :thumb2

only changed to the TT desierto Screen which has a better styling, More positional movement and is a fairing-cockpit:

The smaller standards look sporty but for touring and in the elements I think they are not so good for me.

There is a touring BMW screen which I have tried on the loan F8's in the past which seemed ok and a lot better than the small standard screens I.m sure there are a lot more that are god I just have not tried yet . MRA, wonderdooburies etc ets

hope its of help :beerjug:

With the cold weather approaching, I think I'm going to try the Wunderlich Ergo Vario. It does seem to be the best looking of the various alternatives (I am shallow!).
So, anyone got one for sale?? :augie

my set up

....is an ergo vario with a spoiler (all wunderlich). Fantastic set up for all riding conditions - offroad, city, motorway. Looks great too IMO;).

Just took a spin on a 1200gs and with an arai tourx peak, it proved how effective my set up on the 800gs is.

I'm 5'10", 32" leg with a standard seat.

How about a pic with the spoiler in place? I have had a Vario fitted for a couple of years now and it is the best I have tried so far (although the high up weight makes it wobble and rattle a bit at times)

Sorry been busy.
Went to the NEC show yesterday(Sunday) Weather was very windy and cold.Inndoor parking hall was just about full by miday(great show).
The deflectors work very well ,they keep a bit more wind of the lower body ,the donward defected air hits the air intakes and then clears the bike so no extra wind on the legs .
I had a look at the Touratec Screen /fairing at the show F800 GS looks good but will not fit with the deflectors ,then I asked the price ,over £600:eek:

I have the wind deflectors and the Britannia Composites Mirage 2 Windscreen ... http://www.britanniacomposites.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=59&Itemid=55

Not only is it cheaper than the Touratech Desierto, but it also works with the wind deflectors. Works really well ... very happy with the combination.:clap

Looks nice, shame the west ham logo spoils everything about the bike. (Even though i hate football that is still one bad team) :thumb2
