After near a month's wait, my Powerbronze screen and headlamp protectors came today.

The screen took about 10 minutes to fit, including removing the original.
The protectors took about the same.

No problems with the screen fit. All screw holes lined up perfectly (I had heard bad things about the fit of Powerbronze screens). Ample clearance between the screen and the TT handguards.
I havn't fitted the black beading supplied to the screen. Think it looks naff.

Not been able to take the bike out as yet, so can't say what improvement there is.

Can you please tell me what the hight is of the screen. I fitted the GIVI screen when I purchased my baby but think the MetalMule screen looks a lot better. Thinking of buying the screen but not worth if the screen is lower. To be consistant can you please measure from a fixed point and both in the middle and the sides,so I can relate back to my bike. Thanks in Advance

I'll have you know that the garage was tidied up 'specially for the arrival of BumbleeBee2, back in June. Unfortunately it was built when the avarage family car was the Austin A35 !! If you're old enough to remember the A35, you'll know that there ain't much room in there !! It's not on a slope by the way, the camera was when I took the pic. The apples are John Grieve and are delicious and just about ready to pick.

I'm 5'10", inside leg of 29", and no, I don't have the low seat option, and I'm hung like a donkey onyack

See the pic. Hope you can make out the measurements. Powerbronze blurb says it's 200mm higher than the standard BMW screen.
Must say that from the pics of the Metal Mule screen, they look the same.

Comparison to Givi screen

Thanks for posting those dimensions, Bumble Bee. The Givi screen is about 425mm midline (at its highest) and considerably narrower. The Givi fails to deflect the buffeting over my helmet and shoulders (6 ft) although the Saeng Stealth Micro-Swirl Edging did soften the buffeting and move it up a few cm.

BMW Touring screen

Marksk,
Would you be so kind to measure the width of the BMW touring screen at the top ? (or anybody...)

Just measured the screen on my wife's 650 and it's about 280mm across the top. It's roughly 400mm high in the middle whereas the Powerbronze is 405mm apparently. The Touring screen is raked back quite a lot though.

I noticed on Nippy Normans that they are now offering winglets for the F800GS.

Does anybody have these yet and if so what are your experience of them?
From the limited photo it looks as if you have to drill into the panel as I don't have bolts in those positions. Does it restrict the turning movement especially if you add hand guards also?

yes you have to drill into the panels both sides
they don't fit if you have the BMW Touring screen

might fit with givi screen and does fit with normal screen I was going to fit them but found this problem (I have BMW touring screen)

like the touratech instrument panel don't fit either with the BMW touring

That's good to know. Thanks Terry. I have a TT windscreen extension on the stock screen but want something bigger. I may hold off for a while until an integrated solution comes along. I don't fancy drilling into the bike just yet

I think by next year there should be quite a few new products around. It's early days yet.

For any one interested i have just installed a screen from eagle screens in Perth Australia.

Its about 430mm high as measured from the centre of the screen. It's nice and wide about as big as a screen could go on this bike while still maintaining rigidity and allowing for the fitment of standard BM Barkbusters. We also have 20mm TT risers fitted.

Airflow wise i thought the screen to be on par or better than my Ztecknik R1200GS screen. Almost no head buffeting and no air loads on the chest area.
This is a really good product if anyone is interested in a new screen.

Eagle quality is very good IMO, I had 1 on a Multistrada and the fitting was spot on. They usually do a number of sizes I guess this will come for the 800 over time. I notice on the Eagle website they just have 1 size for the 650GS, what's the view on whether it will fit 800GS, I'm assuming fitting points are the same??

Rigidity appears to be fine in my opinion,its a nice thick screen and doesnt flex much at the top.The side supports which attach to the side fairing - as per the standard screen see to this.
Although to be honest i havent taken it out and bushbashed it yet.I think the web site has four options listed - at least for the 2008 model with respect to the height.
I cant really say anything bad abt this screen or express anything negative.I think its probably abt the best that could be manufactured within the ergonomics of the bike.Any higher would require a brace and any wider would foul the mirrors.Anyway just another option worth considering...cheers

Hi All,

One of the few things that I miss on the 800 is the tobinatered screen on the 1150...

I had an old 1150 standard screen knocking around in the man castle, and after some inspiration , had a quick session with a marker pen and leccy jigsaw, you would think that BMW had used the screen profile from the 1150 as the template for the 800
Total job 15 mins

only had a lil bit to chop off the screen 'cos of the squint on the 1150 being reversed to that of the 800

bit taller than the original, we will see how it rides tommorrow !

I came home today to a very welcome sight, a package from Powerbronze !!
So, first thing tomorrow I shall be fitting the tall screen and admiring it with pride

Fitted the new screen today and went for a ride this afternoon. The difference is great, I am 5'11 and the screen takes most buffeting over my helmet. Dont get me wrong you still get a bit of buffeting on your helmet but I normally ride the gs with an arai tour x & peak on so that may affect things.
The main difference was my chest and shoulders, made for a very easy relaxing ride with no pressure on them whatsoever.

Now the screen does flex slightly over 70mph but not too much to make you think my god it will snap !

I got the smoked version and I think it looks awesome on my stealth grey bike. Popped into my local bikers cafe and the bike got quite a lot of admiring looks, so on looks alone it rates highly for me.

With a saving of around 150 quid, I reckon its a bargain piece of kit

You could opt for the TT cockpit shield here to lessen the visual effect of the gap.

At least it would if you could see it - glare off the screen most of the time conceals it nicely.
I sometimes think I'd buy sh1t if it had BMW or TT stamped on it

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with any of the alternative screens yet?

I went for a test ride yesterday on the F800GS and it was OK on A and B roads but after doing only 9 miles on the A3 at 70 mph (where there's national speed limits) I felt my neck had worked quite a bit to maintain my head straight, specially when the low screen is combined with a BMW enduro helmet!
I also agree with Tim that an adjustable option would be nice.

I finally fitted the Touratech screen to my 800GS -- ordered it in April, delivered in September! But it was worth the wait. It is superb, and deals with the problem you describe -- I found the maximum speed I could comfortably run at for any length of time was 120 kph, but with the Touratech screen on I am happy to sit all day at 130 + (where laws allow, of course!), and my helmet is much quieter now, less buffeting, less neck strain.

I only wish I had had it on my 6000 km round trip to the north of Scotland in the summer!

I wanted a Wunderlich Ergo - seems like if I live in Azerbyanywhere I can order one from their online shop. Here in this blighted isle, I have to go through one of several importers (some of who advertise on this site.)
Not an informative response from any of them, and none at all from some.
Subscribed they are not.

I have subsequently gone with an Eagle. Prompt reply: 7-9 days to make, then on a plane. Oh, and threequarters the price of Europromises including flight.
I promise that I will keep you updated!

Am I incorrect in saying that Touratarts had access to the bike a year before the Aussies? Are we in an economic crisis? Please someone explain.

My local BMW dealer has a new 800GS with the tall/adventure screen fitted, looked fantastic with the brace bar fitted, but cost nearly £250, too much money for this. The MM version looks suitable but could have some vibration without a brace, anyone fitted one yet?

no vibration from the metal mule/powerbronze option. i'm really pleased with it and without the kinky edging. also, the TT extension fits if you're clocking up massive motorway miles and want absolutely no wind deflection. it's great for all round riding though and seems like it'll be great for off-roading without this big hunk of plastic in front of you...
i'm 6"1' and it's great, even with an arai tour x.

Tom, I am as happy as larry with the Touratech screen -- does a great job of keeping the wind and weather off me. I can even look over my shoulder at speed without risking a neck pretzel (my Shoei Hornet DS helmet catches the wind something wicked!). And I think it is a far betterp-looking screen that Beemer originals.
