► Alternative screen options

From a recent enquiry to HPS;

"We can supply the spoiler, but we should point out there is no guarantee of performance on a non-MRA screen.

Also extra care should be taken as MRA screens are made from PlexiGlass and are more flexible than other brands making them less prone to cracking or shattering when drilling or higher load is applied.

This aside, the VTA 3 Spoiler is available in Clear or Smoked Grey, current price is £56.33 including delivery, approx. 2 weeks.

I have a Touratech screen on my F800GS and it is a good screen but, at 5ft 8in I still get turbulence at visor level. I bought it with this screen on so cannot compare with OE although I may experiment as I have the OE in the garage. I have just got the seat lowered by Dave Harding at Digger Seats and that helps get me down a bit lower out of the blast but I could do with a bit more. Have thought about the TT extender but it looks like it fits the OE screen not their own screen - and it's f-----g expensive.
Then I came across this pic of an MRA Vario on the adventure riders website.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=406434&page=9

It looks the business but when I found the UK suppliers site (HPS), the Vario tourer they show is quite a bit smaller - I have emailed them about this today. However finding this thread and the earlier post by Aretsukusu, quoting HPS as saying they can supply the Vario spoiler on it's own for £56, makes me think I could fit it to my TT, save £40 and have a taller screen. In fact the photo of the spoiler on the bike in the snow from previous posts looks like it is on a TT screen - can anyone clarify? And could someone who has finally got their MRA Vario from HPS post a piccy please.

More Vario screen comedy!

Two months ago I ordered one of the Vario screens, I was informed shortly after ordering that they were on back order & infact none had yet entered the country, fair enough.
I was give a vague guesstimate of delivery date, 2-3 weeks.
After 2-3 weeks I rang up to be told that TUV approval was delaying delivery.
I waited another 3 weeks, rang up to be told that UK customs was delaying delivery.
Waited another 2 weeks, rang up to be told that I must wait another week or two for the fitting instructions to be typed up!:D

Still, I s'pose now I've only got to wait for the tree to grow for the cardboard packaging, the fossil fuel to be refined for posties van, a cow to be slaughtered for posties leather sole boots to walk up my drive, and a sighting of the four headless horsemen of the apocolypse galloping around the fens:clap

A should bother ordering one yet then eh !

Chump

I wish I hadn't bothered ordering the MRA now. It's been so long I've gotten used to the standard screen now. I wished i'd just ordered a Wundelich screen for the winter.
I may email the MRA lot and if the excuses are insulting tomy intelligence I'll do just that. I'm beginning to feel like a chump holding out for months for an unreviewed screen.

Aran.

I'm very happy with the MRA spoiler... as seen below. It's bolted onto a Touratech screen :beerjug:

Why the big sell?... upgrading or credit crunch?

Got this reply last Thursday from Ben Hunter at HPS re MRA Vario screen:

"The larger screen you’ve pictured was actually the first prototype that MRA produced – however through testing it was found that the shorter version provided far less turbulence so this is the design they’ve produced for sale.

Our first shipment of these screens left Germany on Tuesday and is due with us within the next few days."

Hope someone who gets one will post some feedback.

No such luck.. Me bloody arm is giving me jip so off the bikes for now but will start lookin again around december 2010.

Might ave a looksee at the NEW 1250adv or a NEW f8 if there is any big changes ie better front forks:augie

Going to miss this ride:( but all for the better tho............

The MRA vario box is still in the garage. I am itching to bolt it on but that will get me more pi**ed off.

Got the Vario today.
VERY substantially made, rigid, well finished.
Good clear fitting instructions, everything went on easily, looks really good, I'd go so far as to say 'Factory finish' but that would do MRA an injustice:D
Ride report & pics to follow.

yeah, i got mine and tried to fit it, but one of the rubber encased nuts that the screws go into got wrecked as i held it with a pair of pliers to prevent it spinning, so i'm off to the dealer in the morning to order a new one, get the screen on, and enjoy a spot of touring at the w/e. screen looks great however, although not much taller than the stock screen. that lip must make the difference?

MRA Screen fitted

Just got the MRA Screen fitted... couple if piccies for starters;

screen 1.jpg

screen2.jpg

Looks real good on the bumble bee... not sure if it will look as good on the slower Mag Grey :augie but well worth the wait.

Will give it a good blast in a day or two to put it through it's paces.

I really like the height of it as the main body isn't much different to standard. When I was in France a couple of weeks ago in temperatures of + 30 degrees, I was really glad to be able to get the air in my face which with the taller screen wouldn't have been possible. If the spoiler turns out to be as effective as it promises then jobs-a-gud-en.

Just one point to note... this screen does prevent full lock with the Barkbuster handguards by about 1/2" each side, but that might be overcome by rotating the aluminium handguard frames down slightly:nenau, although I am going to try and get my hands on some adjustable handlebar risers from the USA which also move the bars back so problem solved... not that it is that much of an issue really. More importantly it doesn't get any where near to preventing the steering lock going on with these handguards.

Recommended thus far:thumb2
