Anyone know how tight the top bolt for an ADV-Spec Crash Bar should be?

Bashplate fitting kit for 650gs Twin

Hi everyone,
i just receives the adventure spec bash plate for my F650GS twin.
The problem is that i need to have the BMW mounting parts set (#71607704773) in order to install it.
As i can see it cost about 44$ and i think that it is too much to pay for 5 bolts.
I just bougt from a shop 5 bolts for 1€.
The problem i have now is that the bashplate, as i can see it, it leans on the excaust (at the end of the bashplate) and i suppose it need some spacer bolt.
Does anyone have the mounting parts set to describe each one of the parts?
i need to know if the dimension of the bolts are ok and what dimension of a spacer bolt should i buy.

The bolt that you are missing for the front is part of the mounting kit.

The BMW mounts are two bolts coming out of each end of a rubber mounting block. The idea behind this design is that firstly the rubber block prevents some of the shocks being transmitted directly from the bash plate to the underneath of the engine, but more importantly the rubber block will ultimately give way if the impact is bad enough, thus preventing serious damage to the engine.

Yes you will save some € by using standard bolts but I hope you will realise it's not a good idea.

So, save pennies, loose pounds if you hit the wrong thing And on a €6000 bike.

I've just fitted a BM bash plate to my R100GS, the bolts on that are about £6 each but, they allow you to have a rubber grommet between the bash plate and the sump and don't stick out into the breeze either so shouldn't catch on things So I'm happy to pay the extra, for bits that seem well thought out.

BTW I paid the BM price for my 650 twin bash plate fixing kit, as again it's thought out, and seems to fit nicley together.

Having just been out on the byways of Wiltshire and Oxfordshire I believe I need some protection for the engine. however I have no idea what's a good product and how much it should cost. Your assistance would be appreciated.

Adventure Spec....great bars!

It was worth the cost to have Adventure-Spec send their bars and crash plate to me in New York. I think that their product is, at present, the best out there for a 800GS.
Excellent quality. I like the fact that the crash bars are out enough to actually protect the bike. Many of the other brands hug the side of the bike and would be worthless if you fell down on rocks, etc.

touratech engine bars

got an f800 gs and fitted touratech engine bars to it .However the bolts holding the side stand/engine bar mounting plate keep coming loose allowing the side stand to move slightly .I've checked with touratech and they have supplied the right bolts and i have fitted them correctly ,i've also used thread lock .
Anyone had this problem and got any suggestions as i don't want to have to keep tightening up the bolts evey couple of weeks.

Loctite... you'll never have to worry about them again...

thread lock should have worked is it just bolts or nuts and bolts ? if its nuts as well you could try nylocs .
Do TT suggest a torque setting ??

I've tried loctite red this time ,i'm hoping that that should do the job .Unfortunately TTech did not supply any torque settings ,so i've wound them up alternately as hard as they can go .TTech did say that theire bike did not have any nylocks on but as the bolts potrude about 7mm i reckon i will fit a couple any way .

sorry ,forget to say they're threaded bolts without nuts which screw into the frame TTech just replace the oem bolts with thier own as the oem 's are not long enough to take the side stand plate and crash bar mounting plate

Or having a hard time with they're telecoms? Can't get in touch with them also...

They are having comms problems yes. I managed to get through last week to order some Klim gear, and Chris said they're pulling their hair out with it all...
