TT or Adv Spec?

Just ordered my white 800GS - 4 weeks to go :bounce1 Looking at the TT vs Adv Spec engine bars and it appears that the Adv Spec protects more of the fairing but the TT protects the cases. Any comments? I've ordered the BMW bash plate as it seems to protect the most underneath - or is that just my imagination? :nenau

I'm downsizing from 1200GSA - after 8000 miles I've realised that my short-arsedness wont be able to cope with the 12 off-road :blast

Congrats - hope you enjoy it as much as i am enjoying mine :bounce1

Take a look to make sure the BMW bash-plate and the adv-spec bars are compatible (the answer may already be in this thread?). I went for the Adv-spec plate and bars, knowing they would not need modification. I prefered the GiT plate as the BMW one has a seam along the middle of the base of the bash-plate, which did not look like a good solution for something that may get bashed.

Hmmm, are you sure about that. I found the R1200GSA easier to put my feet down with my short (30") legs than the F800GS, but the extra weight on the R12 was a PITA.

foolish move imho. i have it, but the welds aren't great and mine have split in places. the adv-spec stuff is bullet-proof. if i had to do it again, it'd be adv-spec all the way.

Downsizing foolish or choice of bash plate? I thought that the BMW bash plate reached further along the underside and therefore protected more i.e. the collector box. Is this not the case?

It's not only my 30" inside seam but also 72kg not compressing the springs. The 800 has a narrower seat and feels considerably more manageable. I'd probably do my back in picking up the 1200 :rob

When you have a min you must post some pictures of your 800 when you get it, would like to see a few more pics of it in white. Please & Thanks:thumb2

Still 4 weeks. I'm away when it arrives :blast But shall post photos ASAP. Finally decided to go for the Adv Spec bashplate and engine bars..... and TT fog lamps.... and .... I suppose this is what happens when you're waiting on your bike :augie (and I can't even enjoy all this rain as my GSA is still not back from Canada)

Still impossible to get in touch with them :(
Anyone has succeeded

Yes. Phoned Monday to clarifiy a couple questions, ordered online on Tuesday. Got an email on Wednesday saying that payment was received and items would be shipped. All very smooth. Although I haven't actually received anything yet :augie

Yes, the number on the website. Although, admittedly, we did get cut off once or twice during our conversation.

My bike with some TT added to it:

What the hell, did a car push it over? Lucky you had bars otherwise some new plastics would have to have been ordered if not more.

Givi engine bars

I got up nice and early this morning to fit my givi engine bars and its a good thing i have a lath in my workshop as i have a TT oil filter guard fitted and where the spacers come with the givi engine guard they make no allowance for it so 2mm had to come off both sides also due to poor welding where the two half's join together ive had to take 3mm of this spacer! But they are on now and looking good and they do make a nice leg rest while rideing!

Adv plate with Holan bars

Hi....has anybody fitted the Adv bashplate with the Holan crashbars?

I like the look of the Holans as they seem closer to the bike, the reports sound good too, and they look strong enough. Just not sure if they will fit with Adv plate......I mailed Adv but they can't give specific answers.

Worst case could do some metal cutting or bending I guess.

F everybodys I, the Twalcom rally bash plate doesnt fit with the Adv Spec crashbars without some "leadership" in the form of cutting and re-shaping.
Will post some pics when its finished.:P

Givi Bars - A bit of feedback..

Hi all,

Had a 20ish mph off on tarmac a couple of weeks ago (black ice) and thought I would update thread with results as i had the Givi Bars fitted (F650gs)

Bike needs:

a) New brake lever - badly chamfered
b) New bar end weight - badly chamfered
c) RHS indicator unit - plastic moulding broken
d) Rear plastic painted panel (below seat) - badly abraded along bottom edge
e) RHS faux tank panel - badly scratched

Good news - no real mechanical damage
Bad news - Givi bars did not protect expensive panels resulting in £450+ parts bill
Conclusion - Adventure Spec bars probably worth the £100 premium over the givi ones (the plastic panels=£300) (ps cheers paddy for pointing this out)

Going to be 3-5 weeks for me to get going again as I highsided and landed on my shoulder breaking my arm - bad luck for such a slow speed accident - so i should have time to save for the parts - going to keep the scratched major panel for now (as £190) and buy some AS bars instead...

Hi Moosly,

I am sorry to hear about your off! I had a similar off about 3 weeks ago too. F800GS with Adv-Spec bars.
The damage:

-RHS Adv-Spec crash bars took quite a scraping and bent. Straightened/Painted myself. Good as new.

-Handlebars twisted on the mounts a little bit (not bent). fixed myself.

-RHS rear indicator, lost a pea size triangle of the orange cover plastic.. will replace sometime, not a biggie.

- RHS passenger pegs. A little bit chamfered.. not noticeable really.

- RHS rear side panel (yellow). Check this thread for pics and DIY repair (not finished yet): I may eventually replace it.

This is not my first off (I have had plenty of them offroad!), and normally the bike rests on the handlebar's end + the crash bars + the passenger's foot pegs, so nothing really get's damaged that much. This time I was sliding sideways at a 90 degree angle and the front wheel hit the curb. At tha point the bike flipped to the right and the momentum lifted it making the panel touch scrape the tarmac a bit.

When my crash bars are bent to the point of no return I will buy another set of adv-specs :thumb2

Cheers

This is mine after my slide down the mountain... As you can see the scrape comes much higher than a givi bar could cater for. If the adv-spec bars are not taking the hit your plastics will be. The rear foot peg's will always get the brunt of the rest of the slide. I've had 6 off-road or snow offs in total but the last time I came off I broke the plastic sleeve around the foot peg. After deconstructing it and gluing it back together again and reassembling I was good to go.

I took a slide down the road today on my F650GS.

The Adventure Spec bars took all the pain. Only scratches are on the pannier box. Everything else untouched and the bars have not shifted at all. Put some Hammerite silk finish on the bars tonight to cover the scrape and all is good. I'm happy. :thumb
