Advice about DID chain link

Hello everyone,

I'm in Buenos Aires, and about to head south to Ushuaia, then turnaround and do the South to North thing. I've got a DID 525ZVM2 chain, and thought it may be wise to carry a spare rivet connecting link. Not that I expect a failure from this chain since it's only 2000 miles old, but better safe than sorry, eh?

I can't get one locally, unless I wait around on a 2+ weeks lead time.

I have found a regular O-ring rivet link, part # 525V8 ZJ. Does anyone know if this would fit, and get me out of a jam in an emergency?

I've checked www.didchain.com but couldn't get sufficient details.

Where to get sprocket+chain

Hi all,

This thread has now become several pages long and I am finding it difficult to find the info I am after, plus even if I see there I won't know it unless it's labeled "Buu this and this from here" :nenau

I want to go down one tooth on the front sprocket, the rear can stay the same size for the moment (has anyone tried a bigger rear sprocket?), and of course I want a new chain to go with them but I want a tougher one than the factory one. I know there are a few different types of chains, I just one the easiest to fit.

So I need to know where I can buy all these plus the tools to fit it all myself. I know it's a bit too much to ask considering the info is somewhere here on this thread!

I recommend the DID 525VM X ring and got mine from Motorworks, not cheap but they do the right 116 link length:

Others have found cheaper and may post. Don't bother with the ZVM extra heavy duty as it will outlast the sprockets.

You will need a good quality chain link spitter/rivetter which will probably cost you about £60 (watch out for ones on Ebay that are made out of crap metal and break). If anyone knows of a good one at a good price let us know.

Thanks lunchbox! I am a unsure which one is the DID 525VM X ring one out of the three listed on the web site. Is it the middle one?

Anyone knows where to get sprockets for the F800GS? I want a front sprocket that is one tooth smaller than the factory one.

It's the third one down in gold, but phone up to check as they are very helpful. On sprockets it's good to see Touratech with a range but check what they are made from as aluminium will wear much faster than steel.

now then

i was looking at changing the gearing slightly for off roading, would i lower a tooth on the front & go up a tooth on the rear, will this do it??
i want the bike to be easier to raise the front end on the rocky & technical sections.

BUT how much will it affect the road riding??

I am not sure how it will help.. but as I do most of my riding off road I am trying to change my order so I geta 47T rear sprocket rather than the the 42T one... but TT is not replying to my emails..

Most of the roads I ride on when not offroading are 30/40/50mph so I am not too worried about top speed.

Cheers for the reply, i aint bothered about the road speeds if i go away i'll put the old sprockets back on just trying to find the best adjustment for off road terrain

For my liking the gearbox is too close ratio, with a tall first which is no good off road, and a revvy 6th, which feels like it should have an overdrive for motorway driving. Reducing the front and increasing the back should give you much more control off road but I would do it in stages, and remember that one tooth less on the front is equivalent to about 3 on the back. I do too much roadwork to think about it now but will be interested to read the results if you post them.

It costs a bit more though..

I've got my chain already and should have the sprockets some time today or tomorrow :bounce1

My only concern now is whether the 116 chain is going to be long enough for the 15/47 sprockets :confused:

If anyone knows of a good how-to or has any tips on fitting this DID chain I would appreaciate it!

I found the hard way that with 15/47 sprockets a 116 links chain is NOT long enough! And I tell you.. changing sprockets and chain in the dark is NOT fun! even less fun when you have to undo all you've done :mad: I tried it with the factory chain which is probably slightly longer than the new DID chain and with the guide screws all the way in and it was still missing something like probably 1 link.

I will have to get a longer one :( this time I will go for an extra long and remove the necessary links.

Hi everyone,

I can't seem to find a longer chain of the same model, does anyone have a link for it? I would like a 120 or longer.

I remember reading about someone having to remove links of a chain he had bought but I can't find that post..

I want to get this setup before the weekend as I have a long day out of hardcore offroading and I would like to have the 15/47 sprockets fitted by then.
