I paid 504 quid for them with everything included ie locks & all. For me, I still think they are worth the cash compared to other systems due to their look & flexibility of taking them and the frames off easily.

BTW, I have just made some long way down stickers for my panniers in black vinyl , will be fitting them over the next week so hopefully try & get pictures up if i can get my pics down in size

No, no typo. I was on with Gareth yesterday too (ordering other stuff), and he did say that they've put the price up. It's a combo of Alpos putting them up and the Euro doing some damage. Looks like I got in on the nick of time.

is there any chance you could please post up some pix of the BMW pannier frames up close. left and right and of the locating tags that lock into the panniers. i have a warranty issue on my frames i want to compare them.

ill post up some pix shortly once i can identify where else is a problem.

I just bought and fitted mine yesterday. Do you want pics of left side, right side, or both? Can't do them immediately but sometime in the next few hours.

I see what looks like a join in the tube, doesn't look like a crack to me - any chance you could take a photo better focussed?
Here's a couple of photos I've just taken, but happy to take more if that would help. Sorry, they're not very good either...

Just had another look at my left frame, and where yours has cracked, I see a welded joint in that frame tube, so my guess is that you have a separated weld.

Did you fit the frames yourself or did your BMW garage fit them for you? I fitted mine but found a couple of places where parts which were meant to line up definitely didn't - the rear crossbar was twisted on the left, and also not quite in the right position, and the tube on the right frame which attaches to the pillion footrest mount via the 2 piece "T" joint also seemed to be too high, and I had to use "persuasion" to fit the "T" joint.

Out of interest my frames went straight on, perfect fit

perfect thank you for doing that. i just wanted to compare the frames to the rest of them. it looks like there is not enough weld/penetration into the join so ill have to get onto it. pannier has done 250klm with minimal load so this isnt good!

A bit worrying though, I've only done about 25 miles (40km) since fitting mine. Wonder how long they'll last?

i do agree and it too drives me insane.

just for those interested and who also run into any desing faults like me, the materials used on the pannier frames are a stainless steel, gade 1.4301 or commonly known as a 304. It is still sometimes referred to by its old name 18/8 which is derived from the nominal composition of type 304 being 18% chromium and 8% nickel.

Type 304 stainless steel is an austenitic grade that can be severely deep drawn. This property has resulted in 304 being the dominant grade used in applications like sinks and saucepans.

Hi Bob, I think they look great and for about 1/2 the price of the TT specials and only roughly 32mm greater size and minus one liter capacity, not bad at all.

How does it look visually with both boxes the same, w/the muffler offset?

The look is fine and going for the larger right pannier would make it even wider.

Tim - did you ever establish whether the 1200 GS vario top box will fit the 650 GS mounting plate? I trade my 1200 for a 650 in a weeks time but the dealer is uncertain whether the top box is transferrable. Have spent ages looking through this thread but can't see a definitive answer!

I was wondering....what kind of rack do I need to install to my f800gs in order to accept this topbox?
