Very easy to fit. I'm pleased.

I just recieved the luxury coocase larger 36liter top case from Twisted T. $249 US + $100 for the sw motech adapter plate.
In the package for the wiring it says do not connect the wire for the tail lights to the bmw canbus or damage will result (something like that)
I am thinking of sending it back. Also the keyless entry system takes up a bunch of room up inside the case. My arai xd barely fits inside. (only possible laying down) The alarm is barely audible with the case closed and the LED lights are not great. was looking for more with this one. Looks nice but does not fit the gs's adventuresome style IMHO YMMV

The main point that i would like to question is the remote lock. "takes up a bunch of space"
Is it possible to remove to free up more space?

Currently i am in two world, you gave it a bad review, while F800 Rob gave it a glowing review. I am currently with Rob

I as the question of F800 Rob, please post a pic of the wire connection on your f800s so i can compair them with the 800gs?

I think i will go with the 36lt if feed back is good.

IDue to heavy demand and ditto delivery issues the BMW dealerships appear not to go public yet with this F800GS dedicated rack system. I'm still missing part no. 7160 7706 427 (rear bracket), but have received the rest - including the bags. :beerjug:

TNr:

links: 71 60 7 706 425
rechts: 71 60 7 706 426
Querrohr: 71 60 7 706 427
Satz Anbauteile: 71 60 7 706 860

Add to this the two standard GSA panniers and 6 BMW pannier locks with cylinder kits. Enjoy ;-)

My dealer and I were surprised to discover that the 1200GSA panniers did not fit the now mounted F800GS aluminium pannier carrier set.
The pannier racks and top box carrier are btw. oustandingly well made and beautifully designed. A simple bolt-on-job done I did myself in the dealer's workshop in under an hour. I really look forward to getting the proper aluminium cases mounted.

The problem is quite simply that the new F800GS carrier-design requires a dedicated pair of aluminium F800GS panniers - and this has for some peculiar reason not been communicated to the end dealers. Adding to the confusion for same dealers is that the pannier lids are labelled inside the lid covers with max speed limits 180kmh vs. 160kmh for the R1200GSA and the F800GS respectively (as seen in my photo album URL below).
This can lead to much confusion for both customers and dealerships. Hopefully this can be corrected.

We tried in vain to mount the 1200GSA panniers - but the mounting lugs were angled opposite to each other on the panniers vs. the carriers. The carrier tube profiles did not match the inner bike-mounted curves of the 1200GSA boxes on either side as seen here in my photo album:

http://www.bildelagring.no/viewalbum.php?user=motörhead

My gut feeling is that the pannier manufacturer Touratech has a huge backorder on these BMW-ordered and specified panniers and cannot keep up the demand. Hence TT-backorder syndrome mentioned also on the other TT-products.:nenau

That's what I'm currently running with on my F800S. Love it!

Full face helmet fits plus gloves and whatnot. Locks automatically, brake lights are neat. It's quite nice overall.

The list of features sounds pretty nice!

* Remote control keyless entry with 50-meter (164 feet) operating range.
* Remote control system locks and unlocks topcase, as well as arms and disarms the alarm.
* Integrated audible security alarm with shock sensor.
* Topcase locks automatically 15 seconds after it's unlocked.
* Locking lid stays that won't let the lid fall closed accidentally when loading.
* Waterproof seals.
* 1/4"-thick cushioned inner lining protects your helmet from scuffs and scratches.
* Three year warranty.
* Integrated brake light.
* Flashing LED security light indicates that your alarm is armed.
* Hidden carry handle.
* Nitrogen-injected top and bottom lids are 30% lighter than convention plastic lids while being just as strong.
* Included universal mounting plate is compatible with all flat rear luggage racks, including all rear racks from SW-MOTECH, Krauser and Five-Stars, as well as many original rear racks.

Nice set of pictures here showing the details:

Are the actual photos of the V28 and V36 (respectively...? maybe I'm just having trouble telling them appart... :o)

I like the feature set and price, the do not however solve my son's basic objection to EVERY top case he's ever seen....

"But Dad it gives the bike a great big BUBBLE BUTT !!!!"

I think he'll just have to get used to it :augie

Given that Touratech had EXCLUSIVE access to this bike six months before any of the other suppliers, even to the extent of being able to galivant across Africa with it, you have to ask how they managed to screw things up so badly.

Perhaps they are now so large a company that they have forgotten how to run small projects.

From what I've read on different forums TT also have delivery issues with their own specially adapted set of panniers. On the Swedish TT-dealer's website they promise 7-10 days delivery for their overpriced special TT-set:
http://shop.touratech.se/SE/Catalog/bmw/f_800_gs/packvaskor_bagagehallare/01-052-2004-0.html

The stock BMW metal panniers are actually CHEAPER (carriers + panniers) than this profile-cut TT-setup. My speculation is that BMW and TT may have some priority-, quality- and manufacture issues unsorted yet. I would not be surprised if some new contracts see the daylight here.:augie

It seems demand for aluminium boxes for the new FxxxGS-series has exploded beyond the aftermarket- and BMW-dealership's capacity.:mcgun

Do you have a price for the BMW ALU-cases with carriers if you buy from a swedish dealer? I only have prices if I buy from Germany.

How wide will the bike be with BMW ALU-cases?

I´m expecting delivery of my new F800GS in less than a month now. It´s time to get crackin´....

Sorry, but the Swedish prices can only be obtained via Swedish BMW Motorrad channels. Here in Norway the BMW alu panniers came out cheaper than the expensive profile-cut TT-solution. Or more precisely; the R1200GSA panniers + BMW F800GS carriers came out cheaper. I have no idea about Swedish BMW retail parts prices, but expect these to be lower than ditto Norwegian prices.

Since no F800GS alu panniers seem available yet the total width is per date unknown. :nenau

The remote lock cannot be removed - it's molded into the case plastic.

The wiring itself coming from the case consists of a whopping 3 wires - a constant positive, a ground, and a blue wire that needed to be tapped into the line going to the rear rail lamp. I just connected the pos and ground to the battery (per the instructions) and tapped the brake line. (which was grey/black on my bike) Install took all of 20 min for the entire setup.

And it's just going to get worse, as the US finally starts getting theirs in. Mine came a bit over a week ago, and I have 17 (!) parts on backorder with Touratech, including the special* panniers. Clearly anyone on the Touratech USA list ahead of me would have first dibs as the parts are made ... but I wonder how it will work cross-pond - to get US stock up, will some parts mosey over this direction before they go out to y'all who may have had orders for (much) longer? Seems almost guaranteed, sadly.

And no, it doesn't help that I can just drive downtown in 15mins and be in the Touratech USA office - they don't apparently have them hiding on the premises.

It may seem like the GS aftermarket is highly difficult to predict for both TT and BMW. And given the fact that the boxer GS series is BMW's most successfull motorcycle series with ( over 100 000 sold ) - the first model year is always a hard time for dealerships - regardless of which new model is launched.

From my viewpoint the present delivery issues can be expected - and I was given a friendly warning beforehand by my dealer that this alloy luggage setup was not officially launched yet.

They simply could not afford people planning their vacation based on unreliable delivery schedules, so I won't complain to BMW about this yet - but these things are accounted for in my purchase contract anyhow. So one way or another I'll be very happy when suitable BMW hardware arrives for my luggage requirements. I think we have some very well made panniers in the horizon here :beerjug:

Just out of curiousity, why didn't you just run with the Holan pannier rack and the R1200GS Adventure panniers?

I simply think they looked too wide - but see your point.:augie The sheer quality of the F800GS BMW racks has convinced me the dedicated F800GS panniers are worth the wait. These pannier racks are of excellent craftmanship, so I can hardly wait to get my clammy hands on the stock alloy panniers for the 800GS.:bounce1

composite panniers

Their stuff certainly ain't cheap.

There's a whole page dedicated to MM and the GS800 in the Aug issue of Bike.

I'm on my monthly sojourn to Singapore/Oz so can't scan it,so you will have to make do with a phone pic :

Bike shown is fitted with the following Metal Mule accessories :

Rectifier cover £20
Front and rear brake fluid reservoir protectors £34/£25
Rad shield £40
Bash plate £140
Pannier frames £300
Exhaust system £322
22 l top box £510
Pair of 38 l panniers £1320.

So that's an amazing £2130 for the top box, panniers and rails !!!!!

hi can anyone show me a good quality pic of these boxes fitted to the bike or maybe a link to some?
thanks.

Luggage Rack

Hi

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my Touratech luggage rack on the back of my gs800.

There are 4 bolts which need to come out of the back of the bike, all but one come out easy. The back left one just seems to be spinning but not coming out of the bike?

Is there any easy way to get this out? but it is suggesting the threads are off...

very frustrating! :spitfire

I did the same thing - the captive nuts that the 4 bolts go into don't appear to be that "captive" and one on my 800 now spins with little pressure over "hand tight".

To get it out, lever a screwdriver under the plate/bolt as you undo the bolt with a torx key - this worked on mine.

Looking at the parts manual for the 800, unless the bolt can be "captivated" again, a new rear subframe seems to be required!!!!

I did the bolt up as tight as I could using loctite on the thread - intending to sort it out properly. That was three months ago, and its still fastened securely.
The chancer in me says leave it, but I fear I'll see my top box sliding down a dual carriage way beside me soon :eek

Interesting in light of recent "quality" issues admitted by BMW is whether this captive bolt problem spreads...?

if anyone has a picture of the hepco and becker panniers (balanced) from the rear on the F8GS i'd be grateful to see it. they seem well built and at £445 inc the frames, are half the price of the touratech 'special' system. if they're the same width as the SW trax panniers, i'll give them a by-ball though.
