Touratech's "special" panniers just jumped more than £100 in price to a couple of quid short of £1000!

I guess that'll be the € / £ exchange rate adjustments then

Whatever it is it's tripped me up. I was just about to place an order; even e-mailed them to ask for a delivery time. :blast

I'm guessing, but the UK website had some problems at the weekend as I was looking at their zumo mounts, couldn't look at them even if I had the part number from the USA or DE site. Wonder if the € rate was the cause :mmmm

You're right, John. Touratech say:

"Unfortunately we have been forced, as you’ve noticed, to raise our prices due to the currently Euro – Pound exchange rate. We haven’t done anything to counteract the huge changes in the conversion rate over the last year (about 17.5%) hoping that it would go back to near where it was before. Unfortunately this has not happened so we have had to raise our prices."

hi newbie here so hello everyone, this place is great. can anyone tell me if there is 1200 gsa style luggage coming for the 800gs? and what kind of time frame are we talking about?

Welcome to the site Barry... you're now amongst friends :thumb

I understand that alloy panniers will be out for the F650/800GS's July/August time, but don't hold your breath, we know what BMW can be like at times like this.

I'm waiting to have a look at them, dunno what the frames will be like though, probably similar to the 1200GS-A's

Happy UKGSering....

:beerjug:

PS D'ya ride with my mates Decky, Liam, Big John F down there in Cork?

Oh... Time frame?... ah well I answered that one too eh!

The welding on that left hand case looks like it's been done by SWSW (Stevie Wonder School of Welding)

I had a call from Touratech UK yesterday regarding my June 5th order for the 41litre special set. Not good news. Still not in stock and apparently Germany have not even made any yet!? I then spoke to Vines BMW about the BMW alu ones who told me that Touratech were making the panniers for them but there was no delivery/stock date yet. Im starting to get slightly concerned as i have a World of bmw trip to morocco on 28th of September and as yet I have no luggage!!!!!

Touratech are beginning to annoy me. They told me they'd be in in two to three weeks. What planet are these guys on?

has anyone looked at the hepco and becker ones
with the gobi boxes ???look good on the KTM

are they doing them for the 800gs ???

I have looked at the Hepco and beckers, the pannier frames are universal to the range of panniers, so you could fit the gobi, or the ones I am considering are the "junior enduro set" for two up trips with the wife, and then using the hepco frames to support soft panniers like the ortliebs for lighter trips and offroad trips, all that said though, I keep seeing a [fast] mag 800 with the BMW varios- dont half make it look good and stealthy !!!

I'm sure there are better boxes, but if you can't get them.........

Could you please tell me what top box and plate that is on your bike,

Alan

Top Box is a Kappa 48 litre with high level brakelight transferred from my 650.

The top rack is a TT aluminium luggage rack (800GS specific) with a Givi Monokey (universal) rack bolted to it.

Pics already posted further up this thread here.

Just also noted this is your first post - welcome aboard :thumb2

Cheers yes my first post, My GS is the same colour as your also have the Vario panniers just looking for a Suitable topbox, I sold an Aprilia Falco to get this bike and so far most impressed, although it has cut out on me a number of times, goes back to the garage next week to get checked over.

There is now a specific Givi monokey rack for the 650/800 - £57 from Motorworks.

TT special 41L set

I think i posted this question some time ago too.
I have them in order from TT but so far it seems that they have not shipped a single set of these boxes.

Just wanted to check if anybody has received it, and would be so kind of posting some pics of them!

many thanks

I'm waiting to see with the hard cases. Had a good look round The Touratech shop before heading back from Wales, the Zega's look good, yes - width is an issue, I mentioned that they were wide and was told that the ones on the bike were their narrow set 21-32 I think.

All the sets work out being a lot of money and I want to be absolutely sure I get the best for my budget (so no MetalMule for me) I want to see the BMW ones as well.

In the mean time I have a big rucksack almost identical in volume to the TT tail-pack that I'm using, bungied to the TT light weight rack. I also have the TT tank-bag on the way from NippyNormans, so once that arrives I'll be able to do weekends away with the missus, maybe even some jaunts en Froncay...

bm luggage

i bought the bmw vario set three boxes and fitting rack i went with them because i only wanted one key for the bike. i have them 2 days and i'm regretting it. they are just too small. yes girls size matters! the top box will just barley take a helmet, i think it's 33 ltr expanded but it's not a very useable space i have a kriega 20 ltr tailpack a us-20. when full it will squeeze in with minimal space left on top. i'm really disappointed with them and am going to try and return them.

TT "Special System 41/41"

So, has anyone seen the TT "Special System 41/41" panniers yet in person?
Better yet, has anyone taken delivery of them?

I'd like to get someone's impressions of them. I expect normal TT quality. What I'd really like to know is do they still have useable space despite the modifications to fit the rear of the F-GS.

I agree with barrygs's comment about the size of the top box, in my mind the compressed size should be the size of the current expanded size. But this is a similar problem with the BMW aluminium topbox for the 1200GSA. Metal Mule and Touratech top boxes aren't much better.

To get a larger top box you need to look at Givi.

Tim

Agree with the top box size concerns - that's why I went for a 48 litre Kappa box. Holds two helmets easily.

However I did opt for the vario panniers. They fit the bike well in terms of looks and design and are able to hold all my camping and bike gear when expanded.

This all means I still have two keys though :D

They're "still in development" as far as I know.

Popped into the TT shop in Wales and talked hard luggage with the guys there, the "special" ones are still being fine tuned and will be available later this year, they're also a good £200 dearer.

There should be a phone number for the Wales shop on the TT website somewhere, give them a call and have a chat, they seemed very knowledgable and friendly bunch.

I checked on them on this side of the pond and the TT guy said they were special order and not going to be available for "sometime". They cost around $2000. CAN

So far everything I've asked them about is "not available yet".

I've got all 3 vario cases, love the side cases, hate the top one, well not quite, I like the looks of it since it matches the side cases but the internal vario mechanism takes up so much space, my XL sized helmets can't fit. Grrrrrr unless it's a half helmet :( I'll be switching to a Givi Maxia 52 top box once the mounting plate becomes available here. I've also got the custom Famsa tank bag, perfectly sized for the bike! Well made too. Easy to zip on and off the bike if you need to take it off and there is a cut out for the bike key area at the base.

What's particularly nice is there willingness to take your Money even though these don't even seem to exist yet. Ordered mine June 5th 2008 and was told roughly 2 week wait...latest is there not even being manufactured yet. How do they get away with this?
