What's particularly nice is there willingness to take your Money even though these don't even seem to exist yet. Ordered mine June 5th 2008 and was told roughly 2 week wait...latest is there not even being manufactured yet. How do they get away with this?

percieved "captive audience":rob, maybe

Will this setup be very wide and not symmetric? no pictures from straight behind.

Mine are on order since beginning of July, I am n.9 in the list, but so far no news. I called today but TT Italy was not very helpful, they have no idea as when they will be available, and it seems that TT in germany is very vague in terms of news on this item. Funny thing is that in the meantime they shipped to me the inner bags, locks etc. very clever!

I am seriously thinking to go for the 29/35 standard kit, as i would give up 10L of capacity but i might re-use the boxes in the future with other bikes.

Has anyone installed the standard set? any picture? and, is it better to get it "preassembled" or not?

thanks!!

I have the 29/35 system and will be picking up my bike on Wednesday, so should be able to get pictures/measurements then.

I got the non-pre-assembled. All I can gather that needs doing is 4 holes drilling in each pannier to install the mounts. They come with a printed template to tape to the panniers so there is no need for measuring or, hopefully, much scope for error. Glad I didn't pay the extra to save that minor work.

I got a couple of 'tool tubes' (actually storage tubes for instruction manuals on tractors) from mozza666 on this thread: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149994

and have been playing with possible positions.

I'm thinking of one tube for tools, the other for first aid. With a grub screw or something to prevent casual theft. If you want stealth mode the yellow paint comes off with acetone.

Tim

I want one (or two!)! We were talking about these while away, it was p*ssing down with rain so we thought one would be handy for an umbrella!

How much are they & did you get them direct from mozza666? Are they secure with just a couple of cable ties holding them, don't they rattle around?

Yes, place an order on the thread for the next batch. I sent £24 for two (included some beer money).

No rattling, but these are experimental positionings and I'll probably mock up something more secure.

If you want stealth mode the yellow paint comes off with acetone or petrol.

If I wanted to test whether my Arai helmet (large size) would fit in a Vario top case, could I find that case at a BMW showroom currently? I can't recall whether it's exactly the same size as the R1200 Vario topbox. Anyone know?

I can tell you that my Shoei Hornet DS does NOT fit in either the BMW 650GS Twin Vario top case or (bigger) right side case. If that's any help. :nenau

I got a call from bykebitz to say they had a full set of the black trax for the 800gs so I snapped them up (my trip is end of september and was starting to get concerned! I may leave the TT 41l on order and see what they are like if they finally arrive. Ill post photos when I have fitted the trax

PM'd you.

OK I fitted the Trax (37-45) combo. I was never a fan of the 'odd size option' panniers but TT have not pulled the finger out and neither have BMW and my trip is in 8 weeks!
here they are I LOVE THEM!

OK so the good...
I think they look great! You can remove the whole mountings very easily with quick release fittings say if you want to go off road without the panniers (I will take a picture of this soon its a great feature)

They were fairly easy to fit although *BIG TIP* It says you have to move the indicators YOU DONT!!!! (I learnt the hard way) I guess there may be some German law about the indicators being further out than the panniers which is why they say you have to do it but you dont.

the only downside is that that one of the quickfit system bolts fouls the plastic (see photo) so you will have a small indentation in the fairing but if you plan to always have the luggage system it wont bother you and you cant really see it so I can live with it.

Man those things are wide. They look wider than the bimmer across the street.
Can you provide us a width for those things?

earlier in this thread

TRAX........... 37+45 = 82 litres 1111mm £559
TRAX........... 45+45 = 90 litres 1153mm £563

They look SO DAMNED WIDE!

Mass centralisation?

Surely you're loosing the ability to filter with these cases, you're compromising the handling hugely too.... or is it just me :hide

I have put a little bit of gaffa tape to stop the qucikfit system bolts from doing that but this weekend I have cut the end of just to the ridge line. Problem sorted you could always try bending the support bracket up by 1/2 cm. dont know if this would have an effect on the way it fits into the system

I like the system as well like everyone has said to me hell those are wide but the be honest they are no much wider than than the 1200 adv Panniers

Had the same problem with the bolt on left side, i took a grinder to the end, done the job. Wide yes, but only only 4 inches wider than other systems, hardly going to make a huge difference when filtering !

Has anybody fitted the alu rack from SW motech?
I have mine on order, i think it's a clever idea in order to keep the topbox for weekdays in town, then remove the box and quick-lock plate and fit an Ortlieb roll for the weekends and trips.

This is the only picture of it that i found
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4385/691
It is a prototype, so the final one might be different, but the only thing i do not like is that there aren't many slits and recesses to strap the roll across the rack (the slits apparently only allow the roll to be strapped longitudinally, which is not ideal if you have a pillion), like for example the TT one, which has plenty of recesses in both directions.

I see what you mean, but you could still use the slots to secure a roll widthways across the bike.

Rok straps are good: http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TES-RSAT&variation=&aitem=7&mitem=12

Tim

Tim,
thanks! Rok straps look very good.
Will post some pics of the final rack as soon as I receive it

cheers

I have the TT rack on the back and I'm considering getting the SW Motech panniers but no top box. I'm hoping I can have the side fittings without the need to have to purchase the SW top rack.

Trax top box fitting plate and base plate
I am not a fan of top boxes so this will not be getting used
much its a case me other half wants something to lean against
when she comes out on the bike I think with 38 litres we wont need the side panniers
but I like the metal base plate alot (I also Like my Bmw Small soft rally bag)
the plastic base plates which fits onto metal is also very well made
and is a real tight fit

There are several options when buying the lock:

51257681199 lock cylinder with vin code $53.00
51257688568 lock cylinder with key $24.00
51257692176 case lock cylinder/top case w key code $65.00
51257681198 general key (code) $46.29
51257688726 general key without transponder to code $39.62

What gives and which one should I get?

next option:

Are they genuine bmw cases you have fitted there? If so where did you get them from and how much were they ?

Thanks, Spannerman

hi, yes they are BMW cases available in all BMW salon. We are BMW sub-dealer and we have them for 330euro each

please woud you let us know how wide the bike is with the panniers fitted?
thanks

112cm

How much would it cost for both cases and the mounting frames(are they 1200adv cases?) would you be able to send them to the uk ?

yes, they are BMW 1200GS Adv cases.
pannier rack is 190euro
2 BMW cases 660euro
shipment to UK by UPS (16kg) 65euro
so with the small discount is 900euro

AdvHP2rider,

Could you provide us the BMW part numbers for those of us here in the states? I could not locate anything on the fiche I have available to me here.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi,
the pannier rack is not from BMW but from HOLAN company (www.holan.pl)

i sent an email to holan about the panniers, and this is what they said. they are just the 1200gsa panniers with a different rack. shipped to the us, the mounts for the 800 would be about $350 usd. that includes the rack and mounts. spendy, but i really like the way it looks.
