Check out the thread I started in the 800/650 forum "Seat Re-cover"

It was done by an old boy in Huddersfield who does bespoke recovering. Just draw a picture of what you want or take along you seat and explain what you want and hey presto.

It cost £60.00 for the recover and another £60 for Gel inserts. The Re-cover is top draw but the jury is still out on the gel insterts. I also had it raised by an inch as I'd gone for the factory low seat option which was ok when I got the bike last Oct, but I've since lost 4 stone and now I'm a bit more agile on the bike I wanted the extra height.

Good man thanks, ill have to have a look around a bit closer to home and see what i can find, :thumb

Thanks for the pictures of the Stahlkoffer frames, I've already ordered mine and am glad they look ok without panniers on.
I was a bit unsure about the vertical bars near the back but they look ok.

I'll probably get a back plate as well while I'm down having them fitted, anybody got a Stahlkoffer one fitted?

Cheers

rear rack

I've put the adventure spec rack on over the stahlkoffer frames and it really tidies the back end up.

I just had to fabricate a packer plate for 2 of the locating bolts and use a couple of longer st/st countersunk bolts, (luckily I work in steelwork fab shop) - which meant I didn't have to modify the Adventure spec spacers etc just in case I want to take it back to standard.

Definitely worth putting a rack on:thumb2

For anyone fitting the Adventure Spec rack with the Stahlkoffer Panniers, I've knocked up a quick drawing of the pack I made to lift the 2 rear spigots so the rack sits more or less correctly;

The thinner part of the spigot shank sits in the 18 dia hole of the top plate so should provide a bit more lateral stability.

Ex 1200 Vario box on 650/800

My ex-1200 GS vario topbox fits the standard BMW 650/800 GS mounting plate perfectly. In fact mine fits the 650 better than the 12 in that it is tighter, doesn't rattle around and therefore doesn't need the thin neoprene packing I had to use on the 1200.

I believe the only difference is that the 1200 box has a silver lid panel.

Good news

That's very good!
Does anyone know the price fir just the mounting plate then and are they easy enough to fit ?

I think I paid around £58 for mine (Chester Motorrad) and as far as I recall it involves removing & replacing four bolts ... I spent more time figuring out what size Torx bit to use!

Unfortunately on friday I wore my invisibility cloak as I went round an island in Dudley and a Land Rover didn't see a big yellow bike with shiny new panniers on.

Some damage to the bike but saved mainly by the pannier and the crash bars. Shame I had nothing to protect my arse!

Castle Gate Island! - traffic coming off the trading estate and me trying to get on the Birmingham Road up past the Village hotel. Never sure which lane to be in - if they don't get you on the left they get you coming from the right as they try to exit!

What didn't register until after the event was the that the guy who hit me said that he was himself a biker!

Do they think that'll make you feel any better?? :blast:mad:

I had one do that to me in Poole - wet roundabout, dark evening, the tosser pulled out in front of me either not seeing or not caring...

When he got out of his car to apologise, he uttered the fateful words.. "I'm a biker too..!" to which my reply was.."Well why do you drive like a c*nt then??"

'Nuff said..

At least you didn't have to hang around waiting for an ambulance:augie

Good ad for the panniers though

Better the panniers than your knees Barry.
I hope you get the bike sorted in time for the trip at the end of the month.

Hard Luggage for an '08 650GS

Hiya all

I've spent several hours reading and then attempting to digest all the info and opinions about hard luggage for the 650GS that's located all over the interweb (and on this forum) and my brain really hurts :nenau

Does anyone have any definate Yes's or No's (good or bad) about hard luggage for the 650 twin?

I'd be using my bike on tarmac 99% of the time. If you're coming over for the TT this year, it'd be good to meet up with ya and see what set-up you've got. :thumb2
