► Seats (too high, too hard, pillion...) and suspension

Have the airhawk small with the standard stock seat - airhawk is the business. puts about another half inch on your seat height. You're not meant to fill it with air.
Thanks for the replies.
The cruiser small seems a bit long for the low seat but it looks like the one to go with. Would be nice if Airhawk made one the width of the small and the length of the medium (only in a perfect world).

the new comfort seat from bmw

i got my dealer to order the new comfort seat in, so i could have a look at and test it on the bike,,,,
i decided to keep the new seat, cost £195 but compared to touratech, sargeant the price is a snip,

its higher than the standard seat for the rider and even higher for the pillion, but im 6' 4" with git long legs, lol, so its not a issue for me,

im finding it very comfortable and the support you get on your lubar from the seat is amazing,

the down sides are ,
there is no extra storage under the seat, which there is on a sargeant,
its harder for the pillion to grab the rear handles, due to lack of space.

The height issue would trouble me -- I am only 5'10" and happy with the height of the low seat. How tall are you, Santrix?

I've done a couple of long days -- 1100 km in a day was the longest -- with the standard low seat and it's survivable. But I would like that bit of extra comfort.

Im a 5' 7" short arse... The longest hit ive done on the low seat is 880 miles.. Switserland to South east england. It was ok on the ass.... but that was wearing cycling shorts.... which are a must on long trips.. At 5'10" you would be fine.

+1, though I don't complain on my regular seat, will see on a longer distance ;)

By the way it's around 100 € here in Belgium !
Cheers
Bernard
Few months after...
Still cannot complain about the standard seat, but I have tried a low seat lately and it surprise me how I could better keep the bike balanced when having my foots on the ground, traffic lights - parking it etc.

I am amazed to see how just lowering the centre of gravity of +- 3 cm produce such effect.
I like it that way, and if on a long run a lower seat must surely be less comfortable than the standard one, I always have the AirHawk :augie

1m83 (+- 6 foot) with an inseam of +- 85cm (28 inches)

Cheers

When I was in the UK I didn't have any problems on 300 miles days with the stock seat.

Now I'm in Singapore. Did 450km on saturday thru Malaysian plantations and I thought the back of my thighs were bleeding by the time I got home. Somehow the heat seems to make it much, much worse. Doesn't help that I lost a lot of padding down there lately.

(I was still better off than my mate on his duke 990R with its 2mm of beermat for a seat :))

So...local touratech dealer has ordered me the breathable standard seat. Fingers crossed. Yeah its a lot of money but I've tried airhawks and gel pads before and I just can't get on with the loss of 'connection' to the bike.

Touratech Breathable standard seat

I just received and installed the Touratech Breathable Standard seat for my horse.

I did a full product review on my blog, with a load more pix. Write-up on how it performs to follow...

the front on the F800gs 1" on the yokes, which made it possible to get both feet on the ground, could be better but no problems.
I will modify the aft shock absorber this coming week to get me an other inch,
the seatheight with the low seat will then be around 815-820 when you sit on the bike(Iam 80kg):)
I took it out for a 500km run yeaster day, what a bike, all I was hoping for and then some, gearbox must have been made by a swiss watchmaker,a serious contender for the 1200 both onroad\offroad if you dont need to go 180-200kph for days down the autobahn.

How did you do that? 1" on the yokes? can you post some pictures?

I saw the official BM comfort seat today and it looks pretty good.
Has anyone here got one and is it an improvement?
The price was £225 which doesnt seem to bad for a genuine part compared to the TT etc. opposition
Cheers
Paul

First post, so be gentle! I bought the BMW comfort seat late last year, and it seems to have snowed ever since (I blame the Bavarians), so I've only done one longish trip. Straight away, it is much more comfortable. Slightly higher seating position. However, with the bucket effect to the seat, it means you can't slide back. The riding position is further forward and slightly supermotard, and takes some getting used to. It will get a much better test in July when I head to the Pyrenees for my annual Tour de France fix.

Hi & welcome.
If you want an opinion on your bike, or pretty much anything at all, you've come to the right place. :thumb

Sounds like a great trip - post piccies and a report while there/when you get back.

Hi V8legend
Have you got the part number for your comfort seat?:)

Hi thomo57. The part No on the box and receipt is C77.34.7.724.099

That price was last year (before the VAT rate went back up). As NOG is also your local dealer it might be worth asking for the same price, which I think was about £187 plus vat. Now I've had more time to get used to it, I don't even notice the different riding position. Looks to have been well worth it.

Thanks v8legend, that's helpfull, I've got a credit note, sat with NOG, so I might put it towards the seat, and squeeze them for better price:thumb

Ohlins shock absorber

Does anyone have the Ohlin shocks fitted ?

I'm looking into the possibility of fitting ohlin shocks to my F650 08

has anyone fitted them to the F650GS (twin)

I'm looking into the Ohlin rear shock BM801 S46PR1B and ohlin Progressive Fork Springs, the rear being modified to match my weight of 213lb or 96kg or 15-3 stones. as i understand it the fronf forks will then stiffen up 10-15% to compliment the rear.

Has any one done this with the F650GS or F800GS I would be greatfull of any hands on feed back from the Ohlins or any other shock absorber system.

Thanks,

Dean :aidan
