► Seats (too high, too hard, pillion...) and suspension

Hey bud, I'd prefer to meet halfway, but this w/e is not gonna work, for a variety of reasons, not least of all because of the gearbox on me GS lunching itself on the way to work this morning.....:blast

ETA on repair is uncertain as yet :(

On the upside, I am off work for a fortnight after that.

I'll renew membership Friday, payday, and I'll pm you my phone number :thumb

Comfort seat

Does anyone in the Bristol area (within a couple of hours ride) have a 800GS BMW comfort seat I could have a look at before I shell out for one, as Bristol Motorrad don't have a tester - or even one in stock to look at!

Used one to try in Nottingham

Hi, if your anywhere near notts over the next few days pop in & try mine out, I just took it off as selling bike.
One small bit of info u might like to know b4 purchase.
I had the lowered seat option, but when I changed to the comfort seat it raised the seat height considerably, it's made me tip toe a bit & to the point my shortie friend won't ride my bike anymore cos he can't reach the floor.

I had a gell pad inserted into my low seat - £60 - fitted in an hour - Pizza Hut/Costa over the road while you wait - Google Tony Archer in Huddersfield.

I have only just had it fitted but it feels good so far. I will be riding down to the Austin Vince Adventure Travel Film festival at the end of next week so I will have a better idea of long distance comfort then.

I am after one but when i saw a piccy it looked lower than standard, if anything i want the same or taller, are they the same height as standard ?

Heights are as follows:

Comfort seat: 895 mm
Standard seat: 880 mm
Low seat: 850 mm

To me the Comfort Seat feels slightly lower than Standard Seat so it my be that they take the measurements from the highest point of the seat which is the raised bit in middle where it goes from Rider to pillion.

Definite improvement on the original I can now easily do 4+hrs rather than the 1 on the original. Pillion comfort is improved although SWMBO has only been out for up to two hours stints since buying it and then there was far less complaints

The only problem is the step between the seats and that's when I have things stuffed in the rear pocket of a jacket

Thanks for the responses chaps! I think I will Riders of Cardiff a ring as it is nearest (thanks Anthony). The Sargent and Touratech ones are too rich for me (pricewise) but the comfort isn't too bad at £250. I am medium height, 32 in inside leg and had my standard seat lowered by Dave Harding in Newport so I can get both feet flat just about, but I will happily do tip-toe to be friends with my arse again (also I will gain many credits from Mrs Lunchbox who claimed to feel like a bag of broken bones after our trip to the Pyrenees last year!).

Push Riders for a discount. NOG gave me quite a good discount. I got mine for £198.
