► Seats (too high, too hard, pillion...) and suspension

There is a thread on here somewhere. I think it's titled Seats (too high, too hard...) and suspension.

You'll find some pics on there of my seat, and a few comments etc.

Thanks for the responses chaps! I think I will Riders of Cardiff a ring as it is nearest (thanks Anthony). The Sargent and Touratech ones are too rich for me (pricewise) but the comfort isn't too bad at £250. I am medium height, 32 in inside leg and had my standard seat lowered by Dave Harding in Newport so I can get both feet flat just about, but I will happily do tip-toe to be friends with my arse again (also I will gain many credits from Mrs Lunchbox who claimed to feel like a bag of broken bones after our trip to the Pyrenees last year!).

Hi Lunchbox
Have you got a contact number for dave harding or a web address because i dont live far from newport ,and iv'e been thinking about getting my seat done, as im a short a**se :type

Yeah I had a look there V8. Seat looks good - my main concern (other than height) is the step which looks like it may push you forward too much as I like to move back and forth on the seat, particularly on the rough stuff. I had a sargent on my 1200 which did a similar thing (and was hard as nails) so I sold it at big loss - which is why I don't want to spend too much on this one.

The different riding position does take some getting used to. I don't even think about it now, it just feels natural. You can't move back and forwards on this seat, but with no arseache you don't need to!

This is really for long distances on road. If you're planning a days offroad, then put the standard seat back on for the day.

Agree with that! It's quite firm to start with but softens up after a few rides a bit like a DFS sofa!

Well just got back from Cardiff with the seat off Riders' demo bike for £200 - perfect condition so very pleased. It felt odd when I tested it, being higher up with the step sticking into my back, but I thought I would take a chance. After a blast back to Bristol, via Usk and some nice twisties, I got used to sitting back into the step rather than trying to avoid it and it felt really good - much more comfy than standard, wide enough to move around on and supportive. Also the narrow front part means I can still just get my feet flat even though it is taller (but then I have dropped the front forks about 20mm). Thanks to everyone for their help and Anthony for suggesting Riders - if you are ever in Bristol I'll buy you a pint!

simples... airhawk

Looked all over and prices are high high high.
Where's the best place to buy/import airhawk from guys?

Airhawk

Now then try importing from America on ebay but be aware you might get caught for V.A.T when it comes into the country!!!!!!:aidan

Sure my first & second have broke & they are not as good as Airhawk, but the two lasted my two-years. Only need to puncture repair & my 2nd one will be back into working order.

:nenau

ps: You might even find it for £7 online.

I got mine at a good price $99 from www.aviciouscycle.ca

Here is the link:

The small cruiser is great on the F650GS and totally transforms the torture device plank that is the original seat. Shipping might be expensive as there is a postal strike at the moment in Canada that could go on for a little while.

I bought the cheap version and not the neoprene version and I am really happy with it. Good luck and make sure you put the correct amount of air, you have to experiment and it doesn't really need much air. When you get it right you'll really enjoy it. Probably the best $100 bucks I ever spent on a motorcycle accessory as far as total value for dollar spent.

I bought form USA via ebay and yes I got stung for tax this side, but even so it still worked out cheaper than buying it here.

Why bother with spending that kind of money for a strap on item, when you could have your seat modified with a gel insert for less, and have something that can't be stolen, popped or forgotten?

But at least with the Airhawk (or Putnums) you can swap it from bike to bike, use it on the floor or on top of a pannier for comfort when camping use it as a pillow or a float when swimming or a stadium seat or a whoopee cushion etc etc etc blah blah which you cant do with a gel insert which is a bit non removable :D

Airhawks offer much needed butt cooling in high heat and high humidity environments. Gel inserts can give you a hot spot. Your hind will appreciate the air flow especially after that 3 bean and chile enchilada.

I have the airhawk2 cruiser medium that i have never used.I bought it off here for my R1100rt and now use a merino wool cover on my F800gs.£80, if you are interested pm me.I will get back to you soon as i can as i`m off out for a couple of days.
