► Seats (too high, too hard, pillion...) and suspension

Chas, can you give some details on the wool cover, please.

Thanks

Here is my home made bum preserver.

Its a self inflating mat from Go outdoors, £5.00
The seat works OK but only on motorways, you get a lack of feel if you try riding on twisty roads, I don't know if Air hawk seats have the same problem.

I was out in Spain and against my better judgement was cajolled into going on a "blanket trip"One of the items shown was a merino wool back warmer with velcro straps.I bought this as it fits neatly on my seat and helps to prevent numb bum plus as my low seat is still a bit tall for my aging hip it doesn`t add any height to it.If you google merino wool you will get a few hits from Brit co`s .

Not if you have the Airhawk inflated correctly. When you get it right, after a few minutes you forget it is even there. If you keep noticing it, you likely have too much air in it. It really takes very little air to get things right.

I have the touring high TT seat but after 1.5 hours num bum sets in...... but if on the bike all day!!
I add the airhawk , as mentioned it works best with little air and they are superb there are many chambers - pockets of air and as you naturaly move with the bike the air moves chamber so in effect you are not sitting on the same thing for long periods which it is the best option :thumb2

I also put on top of this a Lamb skin, which ratcheted down hides and secures further the airhawk, I leave this on brilliant in the heat its so cooling, I can see why all the sheep wear them:blast

Bob really like your seat and am trying to contact Tony Archer to try and get cost and arrange for him to do my seat, have tried to contact him numerous times calling at various times but no answer. Sorry for being cheeky and hope you don't mind but what was the cost and when did you get it done, also apart from the recover what was done i.e gel pads, memory foam, also how are you finding it for comfort and is there any thing you wish you had done or regret having done.
Sorry for all the questions but unsure route to take with seat, I was able to travel longer & further on my 1998 CBR600FW.
My mobile number is 07764603178. txt me if you want & I will give you a call back if thats ok

Hoping to get this done before BMW 60th in August, long way from Dundee using seat as it is

Is he still trading or not does any one know

just let people know spoke to Denise at Tony archers, seat being posted tomorrow, will post pictures once it is returned :D

BMW Comfort Seat arrived today. Will be riding for about 4 hrs next tuesday so will be interesting to see how it compares to standard seat.

Well got seat back from Tony Archer and well chuffed with it he re shaped & covered the seat and also added a gel pad, way better than standard BMW seat and also a lot cheaper than all the other options, £120 including deliver plus I was £22 to send seat next day parcel force, could have sent cheaper but wanted him to get seat ASAP so he could get to work on it ASAP.
Posted it Thursday he got it Friday and I had seat back by the following Friday.

Below are the pictures as promised, used mobile so picture quality might not be 100%

Nice!
I've been waiting for your pics before sending mine off.
Is it the same height and width, I'm ok with the standard seat but couldn't do to gain any height or width.
Thanks for posting the pics.

One unexpected difference having changed to a BMW Comfort Seat on the F8GS is the bike feels even more stable in corners. How odd is that! I can only put it down to the fact that this seat makes me sit a little further forward, hence putting more weight on the front tyre OR the slightly different sitting position just makes the bike feel a bit different and the rest is my imagination. Whatever the reason, I like the slightly wider seat and how it gives a bit of support to the lower part of your back too.

F800gs new seat for 2012 ???

I'm very close to buying a new f800gs; having had a couple of demo rides recently, I'm concerned about the uncomfortable seat.
Looking at pictures of the new colour (grey) model about to be on sale and the "F800gs Trophy" for next year, the seat appears to be different. Is this just a colour/styling exercise or is the seat different to that on the current model?

Probably the same seat with a different cover. If it is different don't expect it to work much better. BMW sold a comfort seat after much complaining by riders. It was different but not the solution. I now have a genuine BMW Rally seat, its a bit taller and flat front to back but a bit harder so the comfort is no better.
Accept BMW cannot make seats and get used to it or pay £100 to have the cut and filling tailor made.
Which ever method you choose don't let the seat put you off, I have had worse seats.
