► Tank bags, tail packs and soft luggage

I was just looking at the UK accessories catalog

http://www.infar.co.uk/tim/gs/F650-800GS_accessories2.pdf

And saw the "Sport soft bag" ...

Anybody know if that has a "hard" sub-plate for mounting to the Vario adapter plate or if it just gets tied on with bungies?

I'm getting really indecisive when it comes to luggage here... even my wife the consummate shopper is starting to say I'm making a big project out of this? :o

Thanks,
Jim

I have the small softbag, it comes with 3 sets of buckles/straps, mine fitted spot on with the short set on the rear pillion pad, and very well again on a TT luggage plate

Thanks! The larger one then could be an option!

My older jacket did not have as much armor as the new one, and I didn't realize quite how much bulk it would add... :(

Jim

yup, small one is helmet size, big one is week away plus helmet size, only problem is that the shaped sides of the bigger bag didn't seem to fit the 800 rear end:confused:

Which Tankbag

I used to have the Baglux tankbag on my 1150GSA and really liked it. Is there a comparable or recommended 'day' size tank bag for the 800GS?

I would like something that is easy to remove, big enough for my Autocom gear and a few extra bit's and pieces such as wallet and keys, etc.

Anyone try the Touratech one?

Oxford humpback

Hi Frogger.
I have the Oxford Humpback expander tankbag.

The map pocket is not extremely usefull, as it is small and a bit tapered, but I have found that on the 658 it fits perfect, and I can turn the steering full lock to either side without anything touching the bag.
It has shoulder straps so you can carry it around once taken of the bike.
I can put my camera bag, wallet and cellphone in it while it is unexpanded, with some room to spare.
The bag is actually designed as either a tank bag, or a tailpack, you get a base for the rear, a strap base for the tank or a magnetic base for the guys with metal tanks.

Has anyone purchased the Wolfman Alfa Tail bag for their F800/F650?

I'm seriously considering one for my F650 after i noticed them for sale from Winding Roads. Looks a decent piece of kit with plenty of storage. Anyone got any experience of them?

Just got been to Scotland with with some mates 2 of whom were on 800GS's.

One had the Wolfman Alfa Tail Bag, riding two up it easily swallowed enough gear for the pair of them for 5 days. I'll ask him if he's got a photo of it on the bike. He also has the Touratech luggage plate for it to sit on.

The other guy had the FAMSA travel bag, again with the Touratech plate.

I used the Ridgeline Duffel on my HP2 MM, which I prefered over the FAMSA Travel Bag, but he had it to match his tank bag  Great for one up travel and swallowed a load of kit.

Not the best shot, but this is the only photo he had showing the Wolfman Alfa bag on his 800, must have taken it the first day as the bike's still clean ;) ;).

The pic is of my bike.
The Wolfman Alfa bag was big enough to get clothing for 4 nights for two of us, with room to spare. Spot on for my needs, Great quality and very secure. The Famsa tank bag was a perfect fit as well and didn't get in the way of the sat nav, rev counter, speedo etc. Both were top notch equipment at a fraction of the cost of panniers & top box. Would reccomend

Can you tell us what happens to the contents in a downpour? Or haven't you tested that yet?

Yes, we tested that in Scotland last weekend, lots of rain :( :(

Like almost all soft luggage, the secret is packing in plastic bags. The material may be 100% waterproof, but run it through a sewing machine and add in a couple of zips, and eventually they will seep water in heavy downpours.

I must say that mine never let any water in all weekend, but even when I'm on my Rockster with BMW hard panniers, I still pack in waterproof bags ;).

I have a Cortech sport tail bag mounted on a Touratech rear rack, pictured here with the raincover on.

Excellent service from Martin of Winding Roads! (and the Post Office)

Just a quick thank you to Martin of Winding Roads. I spoke to him yesterday about 11am and ordered a Famsa "tank"bag for my 800, slightly worried that it might not arrive here in Fife by the time I'm due to leave on a trip down to Warwick tomorrow.

The bag arrived in today's post, ten minutes ago. I'm just off to fit it now...:D:D:D
