► Tank bags, tail packs and soft luggage

Hi

The part number was recognised by my dealer, but the price he quoted was more:(

Was the £141 you paid the normal list price or was it discounted ;)

Normal price Thomo, why how much are they charging? I got mine from Bahnstormers, Hampshire / Surrey (whichever) lol

1st pic is the map pocket, there is a moulded place for a phone, autocom or archos like device. 2nd pic is inside the bag, it has a waterproof liner that either folds back when not in use or pulls together on a cord when in use.:beerjug:

Pretty cool looking bag, clever to include a moulded place for a misc item. I have a Wunderlich tank bag, also really good although not 100% waterproof unfortunately.

Hi
My dealer now agrrees it is £141.:)
I think they get the price up in Euro's and they got the conversion wrong.
Thanks for your info and pictures.

800 1200 tank bag

does anyone know if the tankbag from a 1200gs will fit or could be modified to fit a 800gs?

Going soft

I'm also interested in the Wolfman Expedition dry panniers.

I've been wondering for almost two years now about my Trax. First came the horror stories of ali panniers crumpling in an off. Then the pictures of bent or damaged sub-frames from hard panniers. And the SW Motech EVO system has sheet metal bends and quick-release...it all adds up to a lot of potential failures.

They are great for weekends away and highway miles, but off-road in Malaysia they are just so damn big and heavy. Riding solo I worry about them biting my ankles or being trashed to the extent I can't get all my gear home.

I'm inspired by everywherevirtually and his ability to reduce packing (hint to ewv - can you post some packing pics? :)). Lately I've been riding a lot with a mate on a superduke R, so I haven't been using the panniers but just an ortlieb roll-bag strapped lengthways along the pillion seat and rack.

Over on Horizons, the debate rages on regarding hard or soft...and I am now leaning towards replacing the trax with soft panniers.

Also much discussion on ADVrider.

Any other users of soft-only set ups?

Oh yeah, does anyone know if the Kriega10 bags will fit the SW Motech crash bars?

Seems that they go on the Adventure Spec bars ok...just wondering about the SW motech bars.

Famsa tank bag comparison

Hi - Im used to the Baglux stuff from prev 1150's - how do they compare with the Famsa set-up, which still looks q good I have to say..

Stuart

Those wolfman bags look great. I would be more than tempted to swap out my alu panniers for those. The bike will be less fat on the ass, and will be kinder to my ankles when off-road. Hmm, deep in thought...

With regards to the Wolfman Expedition Dry Panniers and Wolfman Teton Panniers here's the latest information and updates I have.

Although I generally only post as an individual on here, I also own Winding Roads and I've had a lot of emails about these bags, with quite a few generated from this thread, so thought I'd post and tell you the latest of what I know -

I have had an initial small quantity of the bags arrive yesterday, and this is the first time I've seen the finished product since I saw the prototypes in Milan last November. Eric has modified them a couple of times since then as he has refined the concept. The only photo's I have of them on any bike at the moment are the one's on my sites, showing the bags on Eric's own DRZ -

The Expedition Bags are made in a 22oz heavy duty tarpaulin / pvc material (34oz base), and the Teton Bags made in a regular ballistic Cordura type material. The size, shape and fittings are the same for both types. The Expedition bags though are RF welded with no stitching to seep water and a roll top closure on both types mean no zips to seep water either. Wolfman have a repuation for making tough bags, and these look to be more of the same. You'll notice a number of extra D rings and loops on the strap fixes and these are designed for strapping water / fuel bottles or whatever to the bags.

Wolfman are intending to develop a range of side frames to carry the bags, at present only the DRZ has been done. Next will be the Suzuki DR 650 and Kawsaki KLR 650, which are popular in the US, but not so here. Then they will move onto the BMW GS range and KTM 950 /990 Adv and the 690 Enduro. My guess is that will all take quite some time as Wolfman are quite a small company and Eric does all the R&D himself as well as running the company day to day.

Whether the frames will be too expensive in the UK will depend on the exchange rate and the shipping costs, as they are quite substantial and pretty heavy. So we'll see.

The bags have been designed with three alternative fixings - the usual throw over type, fixing to Wolfman's own side racks (as they become available) and fixing to other proprietary pannier frames (i.e. Givi, H & B, SW-Motech, etc). As they only arrived yesterday afternoon, we've not yet had chance to do any trial fits, get any better photo's or much else really.

Looking over the bags the fixing arrangement for other types of pannier frames looks simple and easy, allowing quick removal and fitting of the bags as well as a stable mount, but we'll be able to tell better once we can get them onto a bike.

Once I know a bit more, I'll post it up along with any pictures, and reply again to anyone that has already emailed me. If anyone has any specific questions please post up and I'll do my best to answer, or you can email me at - wolfman @ windingroads.co.uk

Cheers,

Joe

Just thought I would update the thread, just bought the new BMW Tank bag for the F800GS (not the old tall one). Picked it up today so I can't comment on its carrying capacity, but it fits really well and isn’t too high to obscure your instruments, cost £141

I would display pics but can't seem to do it. If anyone is interested in seeing them give me a nudge on here with your email addy.

NOW FOR SALE. SEE FOR SALE THREAD IF INTERESTED :thumb2

does anyone know if the tankbag from a 1200gs will fit or could be modified to fit a 800gs?

I modified my 1200GS tank bag to fit the F800GS and then the F800GS Barry :thumb

Just by cutting and butchering the mounting straps. Front were secured by using the mounting points by the headstock that secures the top panel. Made some new rear mounting straps with sewn on velcro that secured the rear down to the plastic loops on the plastic under the seat :thumb

Difficult to explain, but not a lot of ingenuity required. Looked very neat and probably fitted better on the 800GS than the 1200

Hope to see you at Kilhalla for the 'MiniThatch' :thumb

Edit ... Just done an 'in house search' and found those rear straps shown below. They will cost you three pints of Guinness my friend ;)
