Why the feck buy single gauges - you can buy a complete set from snap-on for about £7 -

size 0.05 up to 1mm

if your going to do the job properly, you need to measure the rocker end float ( axial play) as well, which is 0.05 up to 0.40 -

Perhaps because they're easier to use than fiddle arsing around with two sets of 20 guages?

For the rocker end float job I agree that a single set is needed

Cheers, by the way they are now sold

just use one , no need for two, you gotta be devoid of all feeling if you can't feel even drag on .15 or .30 gaps -

also one feeler gauge won't be taking pressure off the other gauge when you use a single, and you'll be making more adjustments to each one as you go back and forth - you set the gap on the gauges, not the gauges to the gap ( bit more techno babble ) :D

RayS,

did you get yours from wurth uk recently?

i ordered a bunch of them a few weeks back and most got delivered, but 2 were on back order & i've not seen hide nor hair of them.
just want to know if they're back in stock.

Yes, I ordered them about 2 weeks ago from Wurth UK and they arrived 2 or 3 days later so they have them back in stock now.

Dear Steptoe

I know there's more than one way to skin a cat/or adjust valves for that matter, but this thread is referring specifically to the guages and methodology used in the article "Oilhead Valve Adjustment for Dummies" - see the very first post.

If you want to use this method to adjust the valves its easier with these guages. Got it?

yup, they have. they just never sent them to me

Dear RayS - :hapybnce:

relax, you'll never be able to hold 2 feeler gauges and feel any gaps all stiff and stressed out

:D :D

I read that business about using two feeler guages to set the gaps. Couldn't be arsed faffing about and set them using one. No probs. Adjusted turned engine over one complete cycle and checked again........all was well. Also if you take the plugs out the engine easily turns over by turning the rear wheel. You can use a torch/or a piece of fine rod to check the piston is at TDC without disturbing that little grommet plug thing. I've used this procedure twice 6,000 miles and 12,000. The gaps on the left widened by about a thou and a bit. Right cylinder was fine. :)

you said you wouldn't let all the trade secrets out of the bag, as you watched me service your bike -

Don't let on about the "check & adjust timing" trick, or the endfloat adjustment, but especially the TB adjustment quick fix --

-- or i'll put your "cat" on e-bay

:D :D ;)
