03 1150GS Rear Seat Latch Issues

My new-to-me GS (Helga), has issues with the seat lock mechanism. It's a PITA to refit the rear seat and when I have to ride with it removed I can't lock the toolkit cover with the special latch provided. Something seems misaligned or bent. Everything looks straight and true so I'm a bit confused.

Any advice/help is much appreciated. A virtual pint to the first person to provide a solution/remedy/reason. I don't really want to shell out for a Touratwat locking cover or similar.

It does need a thump to get it to latch

Don't be too ham-fisted in whacking the rear seat down, the mechanism is fragile and it's a known issue on the 11xxs. Check the rear seat lock fitting on the frame, sometimes it twists away but can be re-adjusted, even shimmed. There was a thread on this here yonks ago but the advice still holds true

Push the lock up with one hand while pushing the seat down. The seat latch mechanism is a poor design which will flex if not supported (and eventually it'll break)...

As above, also a bit of GT85 lube on the locking mechanism helps, the tabs on the rear seat get splayed out and don't fit easily back into the slots.
I often have trouble refitting the front seat !! sometimes it takes lots of attempts, sometimes just goes straight in ?? anyone got ideas on that ?

Mine refused to lock a few? years ago. Over the years road muck gets inside the working parts, take it off and clean it. I stripped it down, took me a while to figure out how to put it all back.

Thanks for the replies, chaps. Close examination revealed previous ham fistery by a previous owner. Superglued it back together but I reckon it requires a new latch mechanism. Anyone tried plastic welding it back together with a soldering iron and some scrap abs plastic?

I have put a long thin self tapper in to hold it together. If you place it right it doesn't interfere with the mech
