Morning all. I’m ongoing with my refurb of the above bike and, over the festive period, decided to tackle the rattling coming from the front brakes. The discs were very loose on the bobbins causing a significant rattle at slow speed and over bumps. I decided that since the bike was so neglected by previous owners, I’d change the discs, pads and overhaul the callipers. Getting the old disc mounting bolts out was a drag but, after lots of heat and, for those that had rounded seats, a stud extractor, I got all of them out. I replaced all mounting bolts with stainless and replaced all wave and washers mated to the posts. I bought new bobbins to match the new Brembo stainless discs and the lot went together a treat. I then tackled the callipers which were in a poor state. New seals and pots in, I decided to change the front wheel bearing as well.
The rattling gone I decided to head of for a road test and the brakes were excellent. However, I’ve now covered about 500 miles and the rattle is back. It isn’t a pronounced as previously but, it’s still there, the left being more noticeable than the right. I’m aware there should be a little play between the bobbin and the disc but, how much is acceptable?
Thanks in advance.
