04 Adventure Side Stand

I want to remove the side stand in order to fit a 1" polystyrene block under the foot, because the lean angle is very acute and more than a little precarious.

I've removed the tension springs OK, the circlip and the switch assembly then lifts off, but does anybody know how you remove the bolt/stud that the side stand pivots on?

Remove the sump guard and then you can see the big Torx bolt underneath, wait til you try to get the springs back on.

just a suggestion, but is it possible to fit the springs before the pivot bolt?

makes it easier on some bikes.

Fitted a 3/4" 'foot' on mine without removing it. Drilled and countersunk in place with a cordless drill. Have you re-fitted the springs yet............??

I think it is a really good idea to pad the side stand, I did mine in situe using about a 1" block with just a single bolt holding it on. I drilled a small guide hole then a 5/16th for the actual bolt.
The benefit was excellent.
It will make the bike more stable.

Thanks for the help and advice guys.

I did consider drilling it in situe but decided to remove the stand - easy when you know how!
Anyway when it was removed, I found that there was a huge amount of play between the bush which fits in the frame and the centre bolt. I think it is partially down to this loose fitting that has contributed to the lean when parked.

So, I contacted Cannons (where I'd bought the bike with 12 months warranty) and they are supplying a new bush, centre torx bolt and circlip under warranty no questions asked.
So, I'll fit these new parts first and see if they cure the problem. If not then I'll fit the block.

I used a 1 inch thick piece of oak flooring. I left the stand on the bike, placed the wood under the foot and traced around it leaving about 1/4 inch extra margin. Cut this out, rounded and sanded the edges, and GLUED it to the side stand foot using GORILLA GLUE! Then I hit it with black spray paint. Cost about $2 and is the best improvement I've made on the machine. Lean angle is perfect, even w/ loaded tank bag and top case and now I don't stare at it to see if it's going to fall over when I dismount.
