Dear All,

Had a spot of bother this morning, on a trip to the motorway all is good with the bike - behaving itself as it should. When I got onto the motorway I'm up through the remainder of the gearbox into top and when I wanted to accelerate it all of a sudden refused to go beyond 4k revs and started stuttering and spluttering big time - a cross between running on one cylinder/hitting the rev limiter. I tried it a number of times and it happened again and again. So I jumped off (not literally of course!) and made my way home via the A roads and it was perfect in all gears, at all revs, until I got back into top again and it refused to go beyond 4k.

Upshot - had to take the boring train in instead :(

Has anyone else experienced this on thier machines? If so what was cause/cure? I have a spare FPC at home which I can try should it be this.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be great.

Cheers
Johnny :)

Could be your secondary plugs/leads/coils. When I had a fault with these, the bike would splutter, but generally when throttle was quite a way open, just like on the motorway in 6th.

Yep, go for the secondary coils/connections, that’s what it turned out to be with a friends bike

Cheers for the responses all. I have the bike booked in for it 36k in 2 weeks and will have the dealers look at the coils and plugs, which should hopefully sort it :thumb2.

Just by-the-by are coils expensive items?

Cheers
Johnny

Well now is all fixed:thumb2 It was the coils, two of them; one primary and one secondary. Not cheap - £125 (plus an annual and other bits and pieces) but now all fixed and running sweet, just don't ask how much:augie

Just as a thought, I had a new '09 GS for the day and was lovin' the new engine, and was thinking how I might go about getting some more ponies out of my exisitng engine without too much bother. I've got a full Remus system any thoughts from others on some sensible mods to gain some more go??

Cheers,
Johnny

Dump weight instead. Start with the center stand and the bracket that holds the CAT (which you've took off) on.
