06 GSA steering lock issues

I don't know if the mechanics are identical to those of the '08 bikes (although I suspect so), but after an encounter with The Scrotes forcing my steering-lock and damaging it I investigated replacing it.

I was told the actual pin-unit is replaceable for about £70+labour (it just bolts on the bottom), but I'd also got damage to where the pin engages on the front subframe. So if I was bothered about -that- it'd be about £700+....

There was a mention of a front subframe in my discussions but I felt that perhaps there was a communication breakdown between the workshop and service desk, in my case there were no scrotes involved so damage to the subframe was very unlikely.

I doubt it but I wonder if the workshop tech actually took a good look at my bike or had just assumed that all these parts are damaged when the lock gets broken 'cos thats what happened last time he looked at one IYKWIM?

Looks better by the minute. :thumb2

Carry on at this rate and BuMW will be paying you, not the other way around.

Just got the bike back, and along with the MOT, it's cost me £34 ish.

Well done for Barnstormers for fighting in my corner and getting me a goodwill gesture from BMW, many thanks:thumb2

That's a good result, but how long have you been without your bike?

A few weeks, but thats not really bothered me much as I no longer ride every day, when I did commute by bike the dealers and BMW made alot of effort to make sure any inconvenience was kept to a minimum, so it was only fair this time when I could spare the bike I let them take their time:thumb2
