Picked up my new GS1200 yesterday and really delighted with it :bounce1
IMHO the non servo brakes are far superior to the servo set up on the 06 model I traded in. Lots of minor improvements over my 06 bike.
Anyway, I specced the new bike with the ASC. The system has 3 settings: start the bike, system fully on, press ASC button button to go to 'off road' mode, press button again to switch off the system completely. Does anyone know what 'off road' mode does? Just how useful is ASC?
Will ASC instantly turn me into a Dakar Riding God? (the salesman said it would, but he would say that, wouldn't he?) I am hoping the system will do all the work going up hills so I can just concentrate my puny off road skills on where I am going and staying up right.
Anyone tried the ASC off road and their impression of the system?

The off road mode just makes the system less sensitive.

I suspect it won't make you better in anything but contrary to what people are mumbling (that don't have it of course), won't make you worse either.

Probably could save your a** some time, like ABS.

If you see one of my older threads, I am still curious (can't find out myself as I am after the running in period and don't use "full and fast" throttles yet), if ASC will improve or make worse (or do nothing) on 0-something acceleration of the bike.

To make it clearer, the possibilities are: (a) ASC will come up when you throttle that much that the extra power will be wasted to a spin (and would result in slower acceleration), so will improve acceleration. (b) ASC will come up then, but will limit engine that much that will in fact make acceleration worse, (c) ASC for some reason (I dunno) won't make it accelerate faster or worse.

I hope someone can give us both an educated opinion (where educated means "I know, I've done it" not the useless theories of people that don't have it and as a rule of thumb don't like it either).
