08 F650GS what's it worth ?

I'm looking for a "winter bargain" and really want an F800GS.
However , with young children it's a stretch (£) and didn't want to spend on myself to the detriment of hard working wife and kids!

Now I have an opportunity of a 08 F650GS with 5000 miles , abs, grips etc £4400, can I go wrong at this price or do I wait and save for an 800GS ( plenty can be negotiated to accept £5400 , I've tried and succeeded.

Hi Stuart, 08 F650 GS twin are advertised in auto/bike trader anywhere between, just under 5k to just under 6k no doubt can be as you say negotiated!

850 or 650 has been pitted against each other plenty of threads here scroll down the 650 & 800 GS twins section. it realy depends on your needs, wants and requirements to your riding purpose.

For instance I have a the 650, which I ride Solo on tarmac 99.9% of the time its been to south of France via the french Alps and fully loaded camping in scotland................. it suits my personal needs so its a keeper.
I would say though that I have personalised it to suit my taste so therefore spent a lot more and have plans wish list for ongoing farkeling. (the rolling stone gathers no moss)

having ridden a 800, 1150A and a 1200 im happy with my personal choice right now in time, could not go to a 800 for my needs as I find them so similar it would be pointless... If your into a lot big tours with pillion you might want to think bigger.

I,m assuming you have had a test ride of both if not might be worth doing so take your time! a local dealership should oblige, if you like the dealership you could be doing future business with them.

Sounds like a good deal. We have just bought an ‘08 F650GS for use by my better half. It was a private sale; bike spec as follows:

’08 F650GS
1,600 miles full service history
Factory lowered suspension
ABS
OBC
TPS
Heated Grips
BMW touring Screen
BMW top-box
BMW Hand guards
4 months BMW warranty still remaining

All for £5,300. we are happy with the deal considering that to buy this bike new would cost circa £7.5k. When looking we saw lesser speced machines for £5,500+ but this was from an official BMW dealer and to inc. a 12 months warranty (You can buy a 12 month warranty for £300ish)

Remember that there has been a price rise for new F650/800GS since the beginning of the year so this may affect second-hand values for the worst???

Hi Stuart

It all depends on your priorities (wife 'n' kids) and how you're going to use the bike (commuting on black-top or a decent bit of green-laning).

My domestic situation is not too disimilar to yours and hence have no time for green-laning jaunts. So, I opted for the 650 - with no regrets.

Think of it this way - If you go for the 650 you'll have a grand to spend on the wife and kids (or a 250/400cc trail bike you won't mind dropping). If you go for the 800, how are you going to keep the mrs happy (and how will you feel if you dropped your £5400 shiny toy)?

£4400 seems about right for an '08 650 with ABS and heated grips - I paid £5000 last July from a non-BMW dealer for a 13 month-old bike with 3600 miles, computer, ABS, heated grips, vario top box, tall screen (& original), and a couple of prevoius-owner farkles.

As PUMA said, test rides of both bikes is a top idea.
