is it a big job to replace the gaiter on the paralever? (gearbox end)

Depends on your level of experience, but all you need to do is remove the swinging arm, I seem to remember pulling the RHS pivot pin was awkward but other than that it's all pretty easy. Check the swingarm bearings for rust while you are in there as they aren't sealed on the inside

thanks for that, ill give it a go and check the bearings, do you need any special tools?

The alloy pivot pins (one on each side) are a sliding fit into the frame. It's been a while since I did mine so a bit hazy on the process but I seem to remember pulling the RHS pin then using a drift from the RHS through the swing arm to knock out the LHS pin. I may have made a simple puller out of a bit of plate to do this as you can't get any purchase on the pin other than by screwing something into the threaded holes in the outside of the pin. Sorry can't be more specific, too many years and too many beers have passed. Some kind soul may post a picture out the manual with a bit of luck. Still an easy job though.

Be gentle with the pins as the alloy is easily damaged

You can buy a special tool for adjusting the swingarm taper bearings, I have one made by Laser tools, IIRC it cost about a tenner.

Do a search on the forum and you'll probably find the info (you'll need to subscribe).

Or trawl through this site:
