08 R1200GSA, 15k, Bike cut out whilst riding

It does sound like the ignition switch. I have been thinking about having one as a spare just recently funnily enough.
By the way stu I am in St. Albans, if you ever need use of a GS911 I have one.

Hi Seahorse,

That's very kind of you ref the GS911. Mind, not sure i know what the hell i would do with it though :D:blast

Hope to get some miles on the bike over the next few days as off on A/L next week and had plans to head off. Real shame as doesn't fill you with great confidence, even a minor happening like this.

Any bike will do a 5000 mile tour and get you home with utter competance then fail to start the next week.

I once had the same. On that occasion the prat who was driving had been fumbling to put the key in the ignition whilst wearing some thick gloves. The electrics went dead around 40 miles later because the key was not turned fully clockwise and it must have vibrated back to the off position.

Well it could quite easily be that Jim. I have done a couple of hundred miles on it now with no repeat symptoms. Checked everything i could. I also gave the lock a good going over with aerosol lube. It might be just me, but it does feel like the key clicks into it's position better, but might just be a illusion.

I took it over to the very kind Motoscot who checked it out for fault codes and nothing unusual showed up. I also popped a new Motobatt in yesterday pm. So from my point of view, i have covered all the bases i can for now, so A/L next week here i come :-)

I had the same fault happen once, I discovered the key wasn't fully clicked home into the on position. Now I always feel for the slight click as the key makes the switch fully.
