For Sale my 1 off built 2 bike trailer
My mate and I decided we wanted to have a trailer which would easily carry 2 large ADV bikes to enable us to travel as 2 couples with the bikes and gear in comfort long distances to our chosen holiday destination then enjoy touring around the area on day rides on the bikes. I have never enjoyed long boring days in the saddle on motorways to get to the Alps Scotland Wales or wherever we had chosen to base ourselves, even worse the dread of motorway journey home. We looked for a year to find a suitable trailer without success so decided to build one back in 2020.
I bought this trailer from a couple who had been using it to tow behind their large motor home with a Smart car on it. When I bought it it was a flat open trailer had no floor just two wheel skids for the car to sit on.
We completely rewired it with new lights and junction box fitted a new floor fitted the 2 bike chocks, which can easily be configured to carry 1 or 2 bikes, built the frame for the cover and had a local company make the bespoke cover, which is made from a very heavy-duty material used on commercial vehicle trailers. Once the build was complete I had my son who is a Truck mechanic strip all 4 hubs disassemble clean and reassemble the whole brake system wash out check for ware re grease and re fit the wheel bearings, reassemble everything adjust and set up the brakes and check over the coupling. He then at my request modified the “A” frame to make it fully detachable , I have had this modification done to all of my previous bike trailers as a great security device, once we arrive at our holiday accommodation I simply detach the “A” frame from the trailer store it either in our van or the accommodation, making it impossible for Mr thief to tow the trailer away. It takes me less than 5 minutes to detach or re attach the A frame, the fixings and connecting rail once re fitted are over twice the size and strength of the original A frame. We have towed the trailer loaded with gear and 2 Africa Twins to and from Fort William, Wales and Derbyshire several times it tows perfectly without issue. The loading ramp is neatly stored in a rack under the near side rear of the trailer, I have a spare brand new wheel bearing kit I carry just in case we have a problem during a trip.
