10 days away...

system panniers, big cylindrical bag on the rack, tent on top, tank bag, two up round europe for a fortnight, camping.

Pack once, go back and throw half of it away.

Don't use the Boorman / MacGregor packing system ( take absolutely everything you can think of and a load more besides)

That unfortunately has been our way of packing :D

Things have got to change :rob

Bryn ,

Used to do lots of camping trips with the daughters. Julie had givi panniers, I had standard R100GS panniers and 42 litre top box . We used to write lists of what to take lay it all out, pack it , weigh each box , then try to halve it.
When I was in command. Got harder as girls entered teens.
Had big lids on panniers GS 1150 very good ,Julie used to run into them occasionally:eek:
We are doing a spot of camping this year and I have big panniers on 1200adv . Will probably use the space:blast

So thanks for this thread. When packing 4 panniers and 2 top boxes will have spare room for 2 bottles in each :bounce1 Oh and not forgetting the cheese and the like. I almost started doing a jig just thinking about packing.

Enjoy your trip:thumb2

That's plenty of luggage capacity for that amount of days. Done it plenty of times on the 1150GSA and always have enough room, even for the obligatory hair straighteners for the wife!

Looks like I'm going to have a job filing them then :D

Once again thanks for the ideas :beerjug:

I've done more miles with system panniers and global lids then with my H&B tin boxes.......would I go back....no way......I love to rummage and top loaders are great for rummaging........also a fully loaded global lid is heavy when loaded up......in Spain 2010 I broke the retaining strap mounting point clean off.... Then every time I opened the box it was a pain as all my stuff fell out....i use aldi stuff sacks inside my tin boxes....perfick:thumb

I've used system panniers since 1984,many trips all round Europe solo and two up. The good thing about system panniers is you can quickly release them and walk into the Hotel as you would suitcases. The bike can be used without them until you move to your next destination. If its raining when you leave you can pack the cases in your room.
I now have a Givi Maxia top box which can take the wet gear/civies and the odd things you want when the panniers are off.
