100 % reliable 1300

There have been two threads relating to France trips last year.
I posted to take care with extra security. For some reason the posts disappeared. Make your own mind up.

For clarity my bike was stolen from a ‘secure’ fenced, gated and camera monitored hotel parking. In Grenoble. Good hotel too. Thieves cut out a section of security fencing.
My suggestion going forward, disclock plus a secure chain (fastened to another bike or post preferably) I have also had a tracker fitted. Though I feel a tracker is for after a theft…but insurance cant say not done everything.
Grenoble is one of the dodgiest places I have ever stayed. I could tell you some stories!! I'll never go back (in case I'm recognised)

Calais, Reims, Grenoble, Montpellier…dont be fooled by how the area looks either.

I look for places in the country if possible, but also ‘secure parking’…for what its worth. Dont leave a bike unlocked for even a minute.
Annoyingly when looking for hotels with secure parking, all is not what it seems. They claim secure, then say you cant reserve…and if full will show you where the nearest ‘public’ parking is. Sod that. I have cancelled a few and rebooked due to this.

If there was a funny side to my bike theft, it was the KTMs that were dragged out of the way to get to the BMWs..worthless even :ROFLMAO: to thieves

Why chain to something…apparently the thieves are well practised and work in organised groups. They take an old mattress or similar, drop the bike on its side and drag it to the waiting van. Disc locks wont help other than a visual deterrent to the more casual scrote.

Grenoble has become a major hub in the drugs trade, it doesn’t look it but it can be dodgy in places

Someone lobbed a grenade into a cafe full of customers a few weeks back

Yeah, I had seen this. Though Montpellier (has a bit of a reputation anyway, to say the least) is experiencing huge problems with drug wars. Shootings almost daily.
Next level throwing a grenade though.

Hard to believe when in one of the more sleepy French villages.

Depressing to read about the theft problem.
