could someone tell me what the measurements are for adjusting your headlight correctly for an mot.
i was told to get on the bike and place it 17 feet from a wall, but what height up the wall should the beam end?

theres plenty of mot sites on the web, if its a good mot place, he will do it for you

im in n.ireland, thay dont do anything here for you but give you a fail

im having real problems finding any info on how high you been should project

From p56 of the manual:

Sat on bike with suspension set

Headlight centre height on wall 5m away. Mark a cross, mark a 2nd cross 5cm below the first.

With dipped beam on, adjust until the light / dark boundary passes through the lower cross, rises to the height of the first cross on the right and thendrops back again.

The above is for a 100GS as the thread title mentions. If so why post it in the Oilhead area

sorry 1100gs

Don't fret matey... 'some' of us will have realised that was a typo.

way I do the light thing is...

wheel the bike up to a wall - beak to wall. draw a cross + with the centre level with the bulb.... then pull the bike about 7 feet straight back.

on high beam the centre of the beam should be about central to the + or slightly below.

on dip... the light should be BELOW the horizontal with most of it falling between the 6 and 9 o'clock position.

if on 'dip' the light is well above the horizontal - or falls to the 6 - 3 oclock - then thats a definite fail.
In my experience testers aren't so worried about the high beam - so long as its not pointing in a stupid direction.
