I have the abs lights flashing alternately on my 1100GS, and have tried the procedure from the forum:

1) Turn ignition off.
2) Remove the seat.
3) Locate the diagnostics plug behind the battery.
(It's for diagnostics so is not connected to anything).
4) Connect an end of wire to the brown/blue wire pin .
5) Clip the other end firmly to ground.
6) Turn ignition on. Note that the two ABS lights continue flashing alternately.
7) Hold ABS button down for 8 seconds.

I'm wondering if I doing something wrong. Is this for an 1150 not a 1100? Just to check this is the connector, see piccie:

I have recently had new brake pipes (professionally fitted) and fitted bar risers. I was advised to reset the abs, so think I am doing it right but to no avail. The bike is normally connected to an Optimate when in the garage, and its status shows the battery to be good. I believe the abs switch to be good (as it seems to work okay when used).

Any help or even sarcastic comments are welcome, need to get it sorted. Have MOT next week, hope this wont be a problem?

ABS is not an MOT issue. your brakes are totally unaffected. so don't worry at all on that score.

I've had ABS faults in the past.. these have always been caused by a faulty battery. or a battery thats on its last legs.

The trick is.. usually. to be sure everything is switched off. lights. heated grips. everything. start the engine... and pull away. after a while.. pull over. turn off the engine. wait a second. then start it again. as you pull away the ABS should engage as normal.

To be honest 9/10 ABS faults are totally battery related.. In fact I believe from experience that the ABS is a far better indicator of battery condition than any battery charger. On my last battery the opimate said it was fine (green light) despite the fact it was so obvious that was not the case.

Fitting a new battery cured all my ABS problems at a stroke.

i dont know about the 1100 but on the 1150 its a circular plug clipped on top of the airbox

Thanks for the info motobiker. I am not worried about not having abs, but the mot did concern me, so now not too bothered. Will try and swap the battery and see what happens.

ABS reset

That is the correct procedure , as suggested you may have a low battery .

A new battery cured mine, I could always get my ABS lights to go out by performing a rolling bumpstart in fourth gear too.
or running the bike for ten minutes then restarting.

or the starter is drawing to much currant on start up as in my case.magnets all broken in starter. new starter problem sorted,

I've been told that while ABS function isn't part of the MOT, an ABS fault indication on the dash is a fail :nenau

As others have said, pound to a pinch it's a battery or possibly starter issue (but do the reset anyway - can't hurt). Optimates and their ilk aren't very clever in reality and frequently lie about battery state. A duff starter can trigger a low voltage ABS self test fault but I'd check the battery first.

Go to the battery earth, rather than a section of frame etc. And it may need doing a few times

Make sure the ABS button does actually work. If it's corroded behind the switch no amount of attempts will re-set the ABS.

haw did you twigg that wone out?

I could tell you but i would have to kill you.no really i used a amp clamp cant remember what amps it was drawing but it was high you have to do the watts / volts =amps to work it out

I need to re-set the ABS on my 1150, passed MOT ok last week with flashing dash lights.

beat me to it.. on reflection it has to be said that EVERY bike with ABS will have flashing lights.. the MOT testers dont ride the bike.. so the ABS won't engage.

but that aside.. would any of them actually know what the various flash codes mean? probably not. all they're interested in is that the lights work.

Brown and blue wire in the round diagnostic plug on the top of your airbox.

Wire from Br/Bl to battery Earth, ignition on and press the ABS tit on your switch gear and hold it for 10 seconds.

ABS now working fine

Thanks to all who gave advice on this thread. Just thought I'd update in case it helps anyone else.

I did the reset with the wire several times, and came to the conclusion that there may actually be an ABS fault, and started to do some checks, eventually finding that the wire to the front sensor had chaffed through, behing a metal clip with which it was attached to the fork leg. I soldered a repair and then did the re-set, all okay.

Once again, thanks for the help and advice.

This may sound stupid, but... Is there a low speed limit that the abs will not work? Like under 20 km/h?

My dash lights lit up simultaneous and I hear that clank sound after taking off, but when I push the pedal, the rear wheel slips on asphalt...

It's a 1100 rt, new to me. The gs does not have abs.
