Hello folks. I have a 1996 1100GS, 55,000 miles, clutch action is right at the end of the level travel now (i.e. I don't have to pull far to let the clutch out) and the take up is all a bit sudden. I suppose that means it needs adjusting. I can't free the locknut from the adjuster bolt, would having the right tool make a difference? There's no slip but what's the chances of it needing a new clutch plate do you think? Thanks.

Depends on the use it's had - I get through a clutch every 50k, but I commute into London on mine. I know of one R1100R that has done 240,000 on one clutch and is still fine.

Yes, the right sort of tool makes all the difference. I have a set of ratchet flex head spanners, which makes it relatively straightforward. They were only about £30 the set, well worth the cost.

Lovely part of the world you live in, BTW. My wife's parents are from Ballater and Tarland, and I've been up there dozens of times. Love it. Great roads in the summer, too.

Good idea - have picked up a set of flex head ratchets, didn't have any of them.

Yes it's great up here for the riding!
