Hi all,
I eventually got around to stripping the engine this week & unfortunately an 1100 crank cannot be used in an 1150 casing. Basically it all fits no problem but the 1150 crank has an oil relief on the rear of the crank to lube the seal. Due to this the oil pump is different to allow greater oil flow. If I use the 1100 crank the oil pressure would be to high and the seal would overheat and leak.
So sadly my search goes on !!

Desperatly seeking Susan (but only if she has an 1150 crank or bottom end spare).

Panterg are you on radar!!

Anybody else??
Help!!

Cheers all,
Paddy

Have you a parts list showing the oil relief?
My BMW parts lists give identical parts numbers for the crankshafts and the 1100/1150 oil pumps.
It would be interesting to see why and when this change was made and why the parts lists haven't mentioned it.

1100 & 1150 cranks

Sorry,
I hav'nt got a part nr, but the bike is a 2003 single spark,
the oil relief on the rear of the 1150 crank gives a permenant supply of oil between the inner & outer crank seals. The outside of the pump looks the same but on inspection it's quite clear that it's designed to give more throughput than the 1100 models. The conrods are also different as are the big end shells, on the 1150 the big end is wider, So using a mix of 1100/1150 cranks & conrods is also out of the question.
I had the 1100 crank from a 98 model but I assume all 11's are the same.

Post a foto of your spare crank if you can, it would be interesting to see if it is the same.

cheers,
P

Don't think I can help you, as in I don't know what parts you have!
I've double checked the rod, shell, oil pump and crankshaft part numbers and they are identical for the 1100 and 1150.
The crank assembly I have is for the 1100 and 1150 and complies with the BMW specifications, but yours is different:nenau
Perhaps a trip to a BMW dealer to see if they can identify it?

couple of fotos

Hi Moto,
here's a couple of photos to show the difference,

boll%ck$,

upload failed,

sorry can't upload think the file is too big!

can somebody post for me if I mail them??

cheers all for your input,
Paddy

I've got a complete RT 1150 motor which I could be persuaded to part with :)

its a 2 spark engine though with about 25k on it, paints a bit rough on the heads & barrels, the usual couple of broken exhaust studs but I presume you would swap the top end to be able to keep the GS exhaust.
I want what it cost me = £200
only problem is its in Leeds

Engine?

Been rolled on the above me thinks,

any one else got one per chance?? :bow
cheers,
P
