1100 Engine vibration

It's starting to p*ss me off now.
Taken it in and had the valve clearances done and carbs balanced.
Checked all the mounting points for the HB bars etc.
Ride down the road and upto 4000 its not too bad.
4 to 5 it starts to vibrate through the bars,pegs and seat.
Over 5000 and it fells bloody horrible.
It's definately engine vibrations as I have just parked it up in a layby and revved it up, at 4 you start to hear the vibs in the engine and at 5 and over it sounds horrible.
Other than this it starts, runs, revs and pull fine.
61,000 miles.
Someone please, any ideas.

Has it always done it Trippy? At 60K I would imaging you have had a clutch in there - was that balanced when reassembled? Not much else that should produce "Horrible" vibes unless something is strting to self-destruct

No it used to be fine. Clutch is ok. It started about 500 miles ago.

Hmm. My 1100 and 1150 have both vibed around 4k but generally smooth out abov 5k. If it gets progressively worse as the revs rise it would sound like a mechanical rather than a 'systems' cause. Fuelling, valves ect normally have peak spots - reciprocating masses, bearing play etc will gust get harsher the greater the revs.

Any other symptoms such as engine noise at all? Anything else you have changed around that 500 mile ago point (brand of fuel maybe?).

Try it on 97 or 98 Octane and see if it makes a differnence -that might indicate a combustion issue ratehr than a mechanical one.

My 1150 vibrates more with the HB bars on than off. Take yours off and install the original bolts to see if yours is the same. I'm thinking of sourcing stantons or the like for this reason.

Well I don't think it is but monday I'll take the bars off and try without, check all the bolts and try again. But the vibration seems to come from with in the motor if that makes any sense.

If it`s a low frequency 'rumble' then it could be that yer crank or big ends are fecked.

sounds to me like the people that did the carb balancing either haven't done the job properly or the injector spindle is worse than they suggested.

if i was you i'd start by making your own manometer and check the balance yourself.

do a search - its really really easy and you won't feck anything up.

Have you checked it isn`t worn bearings in your alternator ??

no - just buy the tubing to figure out if they need balancing

use CW's if they do

then check them after with your tubing

Trippy you havn't rebuilt yours have you? Loose crash bars? They would have to be Loose? Listen Mate think about it? You say its the engine? Is it using oil? Mine used Lots and still run Fine. Yes Run Fine!! Pulled it down and Broken Rings! Was still smooth. I reckon Throttle Bodies are Playing up? Hey have you checked silly things like tyres? Bearings? The Top End would be Bad before Bottom Damage/Wear? You valves? Nah. 4000rpm No mate Id go straving or just being Naughty for Fuel? Let us Know. These Blokes were fantastic Help with my Rebuild? Trippy, my 850 is showing the same symptoms as your 1100 but mine does not have crash bars fitted, so I am interested how you get on.

Hi There my 1100gs has a similar symptom as yours , but mine seems to do it after using it for short journeys so I give it a good run at 80/90mph for a few miles and this seems to help as at time my journeys are on single track roads to and from work

I notice you have TKC80s and a crud catcher on your 1100 from a posting of a picture of your bike, try taking the crud catcher off... it might work... I found mine was curling in and catching the tyre causing vibration.
