Hi again, so, I decided to remove the fuel tank as it has been slid back and forth so many times recently and I'm sure I have a small leak on one of the fuel pipes, so I intend to replace them and fit quick disconnects for future ease of removal.

So the questions are these:

What size is the fuel pipe attach to the tank?
Where is the best place to get it?
Where can I get brass quick disconnects from?

Thanks in advance

Ok, ordered fuel pipe, however, they do sell the quick disconnect in metal as a male fitting but the female fitting is plastic, which is pretty pointless really :blast

So, what size quick disconnects do I need for my 1100 GS fuel pipe?

What's the ID of my 1100 GS fuel pipe?

No it isn't. The female connectors do not break. It is only the plastic male connectors that break. So it is perfectly acceptable to have a metal male and a plastic female. It's what I and many have on their bikes without any problems.

Ok, so, fuel pipe and Quick disconnects ordered and arrived and fitted this afternoon, (great service from Sherlocks)

Starter motor changed, now engine turns nice and quick and the ABS has started working again (Doesn't like low battery or big drain on start I guess)

Clutch cable changed and all working as they should, except.......... now my fuel light is on constantly and fuel gauge shows empty (obviously?) so I'm guessing that having the tank off , draining it and generally man-handling it has caused the float thingy to get stuck??

Is that a fair diagnosis or could it be something more Malevolent?

Yes..... take it off and start again :D

Once all back together you should be able to hear the float go up and down as you tip the tank back and to before filling and refitting.

Ok, so, luckily I have quick disconnects fitted, so that should make it easier :blast

I'll take it back off and drain it and see what the problem is.

Thanks Paul :thumb2

Those quick disconnects are a great asset when you have to keep taking the tank off to fix a problem that taking the tank off caused in the first place

Anyhoo, it's all sorted and the fuel guage is working again.

The £12/year really is the best £12 you can spend if you own a BMW :beerjug:
