Hi guys

I have a 98 GS with 63000 on the clock. Went out this morning after it had sat in the garage for the holidays. Tried changing from second to third and it felt all wrong and didnt change. Got the gear after faffing about for a while tho. It turns out the gear lever is not returning to centre by itself when changing up. It is ok going down the box. I can get all my gears and as long as I remember to tap the lever back to centre between changes it is fine.

I am guessing a return spring but does anyone have any similar experiences and fixes?

had this problem only about a month ago on my 1150 turned out to be the gear lever pivot bush had partly seized took the gear lever bush etc apart cleaned and lubed it been great since :thumb2

Might just be dirt or grit in the linkeage. There is a little circlip whih slots into a hole at the top - you need to get that out then pop the little socket off and give it a good clean and regrease it.
Welcome to the site by the way.

There's your answer - the foot lever not the linkage. Also best to check the lever clamp at the gearbox hasn't worked loose.

Thanks Gents I will have a look at the foot lever and see what happens. I have been told good things about this site and so far all true.

Thanks for the welcome

I had a look at it last night. stripped down the foot lever, gave it a clean and copper slipped the pivot to death. It worked ok this morning so good news and thanks again
