Doh! stone right through headlight glass last night:mad:

Double doh! at least £120 for a replacement:eek

Anyone know of and 2nd handers in good nick going? also how much grief is this going to give me when changing the unit?

Finally any opinions on the different aftermarket headlamp protectors out there?

Off to sulk:o

You could try ...

... R S Motorcycles on 020 8550 9200. BMW breakers to the Dispatch Trade. Based in Ilford, Essex, not sure if they do 'mail order' but not a million miles from me if you need something collecting/forwarding.

As to the aftermarket protectors, I got a TT one from someone on here for £25. It's basically a sheet of 5mm clear plastic and some bolts/spacers which replace the originals; leaves a gap of about 20mm and does cause some reflection.

Just a note to say you need to sponsor if you want to place an ad for an item on the forum.... and then only in the FS&W section;)

if you still have all the bits of glass from the headlamp, you can stick it back together, as long as the broken/mended areas don't effect the headlamp aim or beam then it's not a MOT failure, I had this on my 1100, thankfully the bit of glass had fallen inside the lense, took it out, easy enough to do got some galss glue from the local supermarket stuck it back in and bingo safed yourself 120 quid

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the glass was in a million pieces, plus the rest of it was cracked. Couldnt trace a second hander anywhere so bit the bullet and ordered new from Sherlocks. Arrived this morning and was easy to fit.

Dont like the thought of the TT protector reflecting back, anyone know of any other makes?:beerjug:

If the TT plastic guard mounts the same way as the 1150 version, if you cut down the stand off's it dramatically cuts down on the backwash from the guard, otherwise go for the wire mesh version, but his may give unusual light pattern on such a large lamp.

hiya black1100, i was worried about the same thing happening to my light unit so like Vendome i made my own cost nowt, cot perspec or whatever it was from skip at work:thumb
As far as reflection or "backwash" is concerned i do alot of my riding to and from work in the darness hours on small lanes with full beam on and i dont realy notice any, well not enough to put me off riding. didnt look where you were from but if you want some sending ive got loads left:thumb
