Can anyone point me towards a good HID unit for the 1100 standard headlight unit, or better still some pictures of a conversion that someone else has installed successfully. I work a lot of nightshifts and I will start using the bike more at night once the cold nights have warmed up a little. The standard lights are pretty poor and I'm keen to bring the lights up to date.
Thanks in advance.

Does it have the twin headlight unit , I had one fitted to mine and you have to remove the centre of the bulb holder to get the bulb to fit , also if you have headlights that are constantly on with the ignition the HIDs don't like the current surge and blow eventually as mine did .

I have now fitted brighter normal bulbs which have been a big improvement , H1 figment , though not as blinding as HIDs.

Hope this helps.

I used the search some time ago when I was considering this and came to the conclusion...

1) Can't fit LED as there is no room behind the bulb for the heatsink
2) Can't fit HID as the lense/reflector is old skool so doesn't manage the extra light rays very well so you look like a chav in a Corsa blinding all your fellow road users.
3) Best solution for the 1100 is to fit the brighter standard bulbs and a light bar - Hella DE's fog for dip beam, Hella FF50 main beam.

Simples!

Only one bulb on an 1100 but I see where you are coming from, apart from the sidelight that is.

Folk put far to much importance (and hope) in high powered bulbs being the answer to poor headlights when in fact it's bad reflector design brought on by the stylists insisting on a swanky looking face.
The 5-3/4" Cibie fitted to my old Morini and Harley FXR were by far the best lights I've had on a bike. I've got uprated bulbs in the 1200GS light unit fitted to my Rockster and frankly there shite....a view reinforced by the fact I've just bought a Triumph Legend with a good old fashioned 7" round headlight and suprise suprise, the headlights far better than the GS unit and doesn't even have to resort to expensive bulbs to be so.
I sick of being blinded by poorly designed and totally unsuitable HID conversions fitted to many bike and chav chariots. Unfortunately you can't polish a turd, and that's exactly what many bike and car manufacturers have been fitting to the front of vehicles for years.

I've a HID on my 1100gs, it's much better than the standard light with a good light spread. I bought it from Les Wassall Hid50 he's in the vendors section. It was straight forward to fit, hope this helps.

I'll stick a photo of my bulb on this thread tonight. I get what's being said re blinding in coming drivers. Not into doing that. The bulb was very cheap and it all seem to be very good quality, with high/low beam. I'd like to use it as a day time running light. Not easy without two headlights. I may have to get my arse in gear and fit my LED daytime running lights (had them for two years)

Not sure you could call the 1100 unit 'swanky' it's ugly as hell and a huge headlight for a bike.
