1100 or 1150

As some may have read, my 1150 GS was completely scrapped by a fiesta driver recently. By some miracle (having seen the odd bits of iron lying around the scene of the crash) I am relatively unscathed, and so planning ahead.

With a knackered sump and rear sub-frame, it is likely that the bike will be written off. So I'm thinking "what next?"

I did about 22000 miles on the 1150 and loved it. I've also had a 1100 for a short space of time and thought that was very good, too. Also a second hand one would be a good £1500-2000 cheaper than another 1150.

So, what are the major differences between the two apart from the engine size and cosmetics.
Any flaws they are known for? eg the rear subframe gearbox mounts for the 1100 are supposed to be weaker.
Which is better at green laning?
Does an ADV tank fit on the 1100?
: stuff like that.

Having just gone ...

... from an 1100 to an 1150GSA I have thought a bit about the differences. First impressions are:

The 1150 has less grunt but more gears
New suspension makes a difference
1150's lights are shite
The GSA 'feels' lighter and more nimble
GSA gearbox mounts appear to be sorted
In fact, all the things I spent money on with the 1100 except the lights have been sorted by the GSA i.e. hard parts, stainless brake hoses, luggage rack

I sympathise with your perspective (objective, though it is ) but I did 22K on the 1150 and about 150 miles on the 1100.
Despite a very good start, it never had the chance to give me a rounded opinion....If you would not mind lending me one for about 10K, I think that might help!!

I find that patagonian dust under the clock is very de rigeur...
