Hi
The fuel guage gubbins in my tank is knackered so I thought it might be a good time to get a new/second hand one which has the fuel filter on the outside. What is the cheapest option? : second hand 1150 gsa would be nice (but hard to come by), some kind of after market tank or fix the exsisting one - which I have been told will be difficult.

Mine was just stuck, float arm jammed, the internals are the same for all 1100/1150s with the standard tank, have a look in the font of all wisdom for the moving the fuel filter outside the tank procedure.

All tanks have an internal fuel filter as standard so whatever you buy, you'll have to do the 'external fuel filter mod' if you want an external filter. You'll often find that tanks are sold without internals so be careful when looking - you could end up with a new tank but no replacement fuel gauge sender.

1150 GSA tanks are rare as hens teeth second hand and bl**dy expensive when they do come up for sale, then you have to factor in internals, minor repairs (many pick up small dents cos they're huge) and a respray. Unless your existing tank is unserviceable or you really want GSA capacity I'd have though a replacement sender unit has got to be a cheaper option?

Thanks for the prompt repiies.
I have been told by a mechanic that the internals are definitely defunct. However it looks like the best route is to sort the original item and put the filter outside. I have seen an 1100 with a gsa tank, however, and it looked very nice - I do long tours (Slovenia this year) but not through the 3rd world so don't really need a bigger fuel capacity.
