1100 vs. 1100

Last weekend Margus aka tsikonaut and me compared our GS’s. He has late 90s model with the cat and mine is ´94 without a cat. The performance seemed to be pretty much the same on both bikes but mine felt a little bit rougher, edgy, and sharper while Margus’ one was softer and smoother. Fuel consumption for Margus is something like from 4.8 to 5.8 litres per 100km (40-50 mpg); in my case the numbers are about from 6.5 to 7.5 (30-35 mpg).

Does anyone have comparative experience with such GS’s? Is the Lambda and cat what make bike softer or can I suspect the presence of tuning chip of some kind under my gas tank?

Mines a 94 1100,and if it does less than 45-50 mpg,I start looking for a problem.It sounds like yours just needs a good service and set up

I've checked valve clearance, bike has good plugs, new air and fuel filters, I change the oil regularly, bike's performance is OK. What else to set up or service?
